Re: British schools sent for an early bath.
Halal meals are on the school dinner menus of all schools here already;I don't have a problem with that but the segregated bathing is taking it a bit too far.We all showered together when i was at secondary school, under the VERY watchful eyes of 2 lesbian PE teachers.

I'm totally against it and feel as strongly as other members but is this really what Muslim people want or is it just the suggestion of this group. Cubicles in changing rooms are something that I think all children of a certain age would want, I think I must have gone to the same school as Lindsay ( 2 lesbian PE teachers) I know given a choice I would've been in one.

Re: British schools sent for an early bath.
There are plenty of other religious/cultural/ethnic groups in this country like Jews, Sikhs, Hindus, Chinese who maintain their own distinct identity, yet (with occasional exceptions) don't continually ask for special treatment. I don't have figures to hand but I believe that some of these groups are greater numerically than the Muslim population. So why is it that Muslim organisations seem to be forever airing their grievances and demanding that we adapt to their culture? And are these organisations truly representative of the Muslim population? I work with a guy who's a practising Muslim. He goes off to an empty office to do his praying everyday, but he despises those Muslims who want to emphasise their difference and demand that our society changes to fit in with their principles. I'd be interested to hear what Muslim members of this forum like Mani think about this.

to be honest I don't see anything wrong with ALL children having the facility of seperate showers..come to think of it there did seem to be some very strange PE teachers standing at the showers door when we had communial shower rooms. |

It wants Arabic language classes for Muslim pupils, and says the Koran should be recited in music classes.

Re: British schools sent for an early bath.
Interesting to see that other muslim groups are not backing these proposals. Also, somewhat worrying that the Muslim Council of Britain appears to have the ear of Blair and that a senior government adviser will be attending the launch of this campaign today.
If the government has any common sense, it will give these proposals short shrift. Sadly, common sense is a commodity that appears to be in very short supply amongst those who govern us. |
