Newspaper readership
Bit of a jump from another thread (jimmyjim poem to the Observer)
I'm just wondering how many people actually read a newspaper these days or have one delivered ?. At one time I used to have two delivered , one 'national' and one 'local' now I only get the local one and thats mostly just to check who has passed on and it seems these days there are more and more names I recognize and to see what the local council has been up to and the local police arrest log, rest of my national and world news I get off the internet . Would be interesting in hearing from younger users of this group how they get their news and if they read the local paper for whats going on in the area. thanks |
Re: Newspaper readership
we get our local evening paper 5 days out of 7 its still good to know whats happening around you ..and i still try and get my brother to save the accrington observers up for us an some times we get a dozen or so at once which makes good reading ..although i do pop onto the observer online to keep an eye on the headlines...

Re: Newspaper readership
I get the morning paper every day delivered and the local weekly delivered.

Re: Newspaper readership
I look at the local paper on the internet most days. Read through the 2 local papers that are delivered free on Thursdays. Buy the Washington Post on Sundays and get the rest of the news over the radio, television, and internet.

Re: Newspaper readership
I love the Sunday newspapers. Maria Callas trilling away in the background, coffee, a bacon buttie, and a pile of papers. Bliss.
I buy the Observer, Sunday Times, and sadly the News of the World. I also buy the Accrington Observer every Thursday. Occasionally I'll buy the Lancashire Evening Telegraph, and each time I wonder why I bought it, and remind myself that is the worst local paper in the whole of the UK. I also get to read a couple of second hand copies of the Daily Mail. The political bias drives me mad, but it's good to have a broad base of what's being reported. |

Re: Newspaper readership
I haven’t had a national daily newspaper delivered to my door for more than 20 years.
I much prefer to watch the news on BBC1 and ITV 1 and Newsnight on BBC2. Other than that it is Ceefax for me. There are also the hourly bulletins on Radio 2. If anything important catches my attention then the Internet helps out with the details. |
Re: Newspaper readership
6-2 i dont bother except for the Accy Observer, which i always get on Thursdays.2-10 i get the Mirror, except Fridays,as i dont have time to read it(its 11-4on 2-10 Fridays).Sat & Sun iget the Mirror.Dont get them delivered because of said shifts & its a short stroll to the newsagents & they dont deliver cigs.On2-10 i'll have a shufties of someones LET at work.

Re: Newspaper readership
I get a daily paper every day (Guardian) and Sunday Observer. I get the Lancashire Telegraph every day and the Accrington Observer once a week.
I get up early in the morning, put the kettle on and settle down with a cup of coffee and my papers before the kids get up - it's my twenty minutes of bliss every day. I can only glance through them then and finish them off in the evening. |
Re: Newspaper readership
get mirror and telegraph delivered every day...problem is finding time to read them..... reminder to self to cancel papers...save a fortune :o
