Sky Channels On Virgin Media (aka NTL)
 

As some of you may have seen on the news Sky and Virgin could not come to an agreement about the amount Virgin should pay for showing certain Sky Channels. As a result those of you with Virgin (NTL) are now missing Sky One & Sky Two, Sky News & Sky Sports News & Sky Travel.

No big loss really. To me anyway, i suppose it is if you watch 24 or Lost and have NTL.

But what is brilliant is on the TV Guide on Virgin where the channels used to be, they have been renamed, Sky News is now Sky Snooze. On Sky Sports News if you press information it says "Sky has packed up its balls and gone home"

I just thought that it was very funny, theres a couple more sarcastic comments aswell. I always thought Richard Branson had a sense of humour! :D

I think everyone should back Sir Dicky up on this. If Sky break the other companies imagine what will happen wehn they have the monopoly, you will be paying twice as much for Sky.

Sky have the monopoly on satellite now. They have created there system so you need a sky box to receive channels and their box does not really like you adding extra channels. Yes there are channels that your sky box can get that are not on the epg

Yes they have a monopoly on satellite but strangely enough not on Sky channels. However if they keep hiking the price up to those competitors who take there channels then they will have a complete monopoly. They are already withdrawing some channels from Freeview in the summer.

I sooo hope Branson is going to cable enable all places:D cos im sooo sick of the sky dish interferance with bad weather, stuck sky boxes & cant change channels till u switch off & back on. Rib off sky in every sence, i wanna be virgin as is me phone:D.........hehehehe cheers Dicky for the xtra credit bonus as promised on time - wish every company was as prompt & customer minded:D

Have been with Virgin either with mobile or cable for a while now & have always been impressed with the way they 'talk' to the customer in their info brochures etc.No fancy spiel,they talk to you as though they're on the same level as you,if you get my drift.Even the woman on their answer phone sounds pretty trendy,in a Branson kind of way:)

ok a dumb question for you tech guys who have a satellite dish for TV reception, do you have to pay for it ? reason for question ........my daughter and her family live in a small village just over the border in what used to be east Germany and they have a satallite dish on the roof , usually on my annual visit I have 'jet-lag ' for a couple of days and end -up getting up at 3 a.m. and flicking on the TV and channel surf ....I am amazed that they can pick-up 100s of stations from all over Europe , I asked the son-in-law how much this costs them (ok , I'm a nosy sod) each month ? .........he told me nothing .....they bought the dish and this gadget, ( kind of a cross between a compass and an azmiuth meter which allows them to align the dish to the signal) from a local electric goods store and they have T.V. , the co-axial cable is direct from the dish to the TV no scambler as I could see ...... and I know from friends who live in the middle east that they also get free satallite TV , .......so basically my question is why do folks in the UK have to pay a monthly fee to download signals ?

Thats probably 'cus your dish is slightly out of line. I personally think you need a zone 2 dish (60cm) this far north but sky only install them in Scotland ish. zone 1 dishes (48cm) are ok until you get bad weather.

Virgin are trying to get deals with LLU providers to send TV over broadband lines so they dont need to lay down more cable i think

Try about region of £60 for sky engineer for maintenance full check as what it would be classed as as had box & dish over 12mnths :rolleyes: when i enquired 18mnth back. Mind u they wouldnt put my sky dish on the roof as when moved here despite the promises - had to get an independant approved satilite fitter who would cos sky's H&S policy at the time, sadly they are not about now:(

So lumbered this is where sky have the monopoly as to justify charging ludicrous rates for even maintenance or ensuring u can view for what u are paying!! as they are quite happy to charge your monthly fee but not maintain dish or box without fee or monthly warrenty fee which is about that per year:rolleyes: . U would think that with everything going digital that they could do something about the signal when its raining etc mmm rains a lot in this country:rolleyes: so think they are getting their money whether u can actually view or not at times:mad:

True but means u cant take advantage of the 3 package deals & yet still get lumbered with sky or freeview for choice:mad:

well my brother has just ditched ntl and signed up to sky, ntl are suffering financialy already and i can see a lot of other customers leaving ntl for sky

sad realy because ntl's setup is a lot better and you dont loose your service in bad weather or have the picture constanlt breaking up when its windy
