How do you judge people?
It has often crossed my mind in the short time that I have been a member of Accyweb, How do other members who have not met me in person, and as far as I am aware there is only one out of all the thousands of members that I know has met me. This is a double edged sword how do I see you. Do I judge you by your body language, hard to do when you cannot see the other party, the way you craft your posts, I have found that the avitar of a member tells me or gives me an impression of the face behind the person. Am I right or wrong?

Re: How do you judge people?
yes you are right ianto, well from my experience with meeting accywebbers there avatar says it all, i try not to pre judge people, i usually go in with an open mind so i can make my own opinion of them......my avatar describes me to a tee :)
|
Re: How do you judge people?
I hope I dont look like my avatar! I dont judge people on here because you think you know what they might be like but then when you meet them they're totally different.
|
Re: How do you judge people?
My avatar looks nothing like me. :D
I don't really judge people even on first meeting because you can't really know a person that quickly. It's funny when it comes to posts on a message board because I can wholeheartedly agree with someone on one topic and totally disagree with them on another which some people don't seem to be able to do. Unfortunately there are those who, once they have disagreed with someone, refuse to take seriously anything that they say thereafter. I think that say more about them than the person they are judging. I suppose I just take people as I find them at the time. |

Re: How do you judge people?
Does a member that has an avitar that changes into maybe two or three different characters have a multipe personality problem?
|
Re: How do you judge people?
Congrats on your 2500th Granny.
As for how I see people, I do alot better in face to face settings. I like to read body language to get a good idea as to how someone is thinking. I also feel a bit more comfortable with people seeing how I say something. I believe I'm pretty easy to read as far as seriousness and humor! This is all a big reason for me wanting to take a trip over in May! Brian |
Re: How do you judge people?
It may be fairly shallow but I judge people by the clothes they wear, as they give off enough character details to make a fairly sound judgement possible.
For instance you are on a naturist beach. No clothes, everyone tanned, no clues. Fat or thin, we all look fairly much the same in the nuddy. However, those same people on the boat back from the beach at the end of the day, are a totally different story. He is no longer a millionaire Swiss industrialist. No, in sandals worn with socks, and a Van Halen t-shirt, he's now a pork butcher from a suburb of Basel. The beautiful French babe isn't a haughty Parisian who works for Marie Clare after all. Once she's put her velour, leisure suit back on, she looks like the vet that she is. As for that sad, weedy, geek, now he's in his Jermyn Street shirt, horned rim glasses, and well tailored Bermuda shorts, he's gorgeous! Shallow I know, but without speaking to people, it's a start. As for you Ianto. What impression do I have of you, purely from knowing you from your posts here? Kindly. Sense of humour. Bit paranoid. Feisty. Nice.:) |

Re: How do you judge people?
dont really judge until i meet people, things can be very misleading in a forum, have met many members now at meets and they definatly do not look like i imagined at first, also the ones i have come across i think are ok people without doubt. not what i imagined prior.as for what people think of me, my stock answer= Never Mistake Me. for Somebody That Gives a SH**.;)

Re: How do you judge people?
Youv'e just about hit the nail on the head garinda, body language comes in many forms, tone of voice as in telephone agressive wording as in posts, but for me the avitars are the best indication as they are like personal number plates on cars, an extension of ones personality, or are they,
I think they may reflect a persons mood or sense of humour at the time they select them, and as I said no offence is intended, only a good humorous discussion on an otherwise boring evening. |

Re: How do you judge people?
It's interesting. When you're on a forum, you tend to have much more extreme views, and things seem more black and white, hence if you disagree with someone its usually to a large degree.
When I first started I had certain impressions of people, especially Gayle because she was fighting to become a councilor for the Labour party, where as I was quite Conservative thinking at the time. I basicly expected her to be an evil ogre, not the nice person I met in Oakhill Park. Haha. Another person I'd make judgments on is Jambutty, we've had such major disagreements at times, so much so that I've even turned to childish name calling at one point. Now im pretty sure if I met him in the flesh, we'd agree on so so much, and we'd have a understanding between us. Of course, I would like to meet Jambutty at some stage, because of the interesting debates we have had here, and really because even though I don't believe hes right all the time, I still have a lot of respect for him because his arguments are usually founded upon solid ground, even if I think the judgment is wrong sometimes. It really is quite funny how different people can be on a forum as opposed to in person. Then again, im probably personally the same in person as on here, but im sure the people I met at the meet could give an opinion on that. :) |

Re: How do you judge people?
Thanks Cyfr, I think :D
I love the debate threads, I don't post on all of them if I don't have an opinion or enough information to do so, but I do find them interesting. I'm a bit like that in real life, I love a good debate, can get quite heated and cross with people but at the end of the evening would never leave angry. The only time I don't like it is when it gets into personal attacks and I've been on the end of a few of them - they upset me. You can attack my views, disagree with me endlessly but call me names and I do take them personally. When I first came on I had a big row with Tealeaf and Less and it left me in tears, really upset me because I took it personally, mostly because it was an attacking thread that had my name in the title - pretty much gonna take that personal I think. Since then though, I've met Less and we get along fine now. We actually have similar senses of humour, not that most people would think so from my posts on here, so we're ok now. What I do find interesting though is working out relationships with other members. For instance, there are a few members on here that know each other and it's interesting when new members plough in to work out how or who they know. |

I agree with you both that personal insults of other members is just not acceptable. Disagree with a point of view by all means but always remember that everyone is entitled to their own opinion ....................... even if it's wrong ;)

Well said cyfr! I've to be in a few tiffs and it can get quite upsetting.
Must admit I enjoy watching some of the word battles that go on. There are a few sharp-tongued individuals that can make a good riff that much more enjoyable. Also appreciate the peace makers that try to bring the family-feuds back to the kissing and making up stage! Brian |
