Sewers

Just thought I'd give a heads up about some info I received this weekend as I know there have been others mention problems with sewers.

Basically the goverment have decided to make the utilities companies responsible for all sewers even those on private land. Now the definition of a sewer is a pipe that carries waste water and products from 'MORE THAN ONE PROPERTY' if a pipe serves only a single property it is classed as a DRAIN until it reaches the road edge where it becomes a sewer.

So if like me you have pipes under your house/garden that serve more than house they will become the responsibility of United utilities round here. This is good news in that if there is a problem currently it is a shared responsibility between the houses involved if work is required on them and you have to pay if they need re-laying/unblocking etc, this will now not be your problem. The expected cost is £8-11/year

I'm trying to find out the effective date(Perhaps if hes reading Greg can enlighten? )

Re: Sewers

Its always been that entwisi if your house was built before oct 1937/8 cant remember which one then united utilities are responsible for all drains and sewers outside of your house until they reach the main sewer. I found that out when i was arguing with rossendale council and united utilities.
