Could you?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/6419041.stm

Basically they eat Dog meat , not as in Chappie etc but the actual dog. So could you? after all as he says, its a cultural thing and the tought of frogs legs would be too much for him.

Here we are brought up that cow, pig, sheep, poultry are the meat options, whats wrong with other forms as well?

My answer, yes i could.

Re: Could you?

I could, especially now I've found that it gives you special protection against juju!

As the bloke says, it's all a matter of culture. I ate guinea pig in Peru and it was delicious!

Re: Could you?

As a carnivore I have to answer yes, unless I want to appear hypocritical. Its just a cultural thing.

Using the same criteria I'd have to ask why is human flesh any different?

Now where's that nice bottle bottle of Chianti Clarice?:D

Re: Could you?

Isn't there some greater health risk from canibalism?

If I was starving and all there was to eat was human, I'd eat it.

Tired of the same old weekend joints?

Bored with beef, pork, and lamb?

Then try this tasty recipe for 'marinated leg of person'.

Do try to limit your salt intake though, as it could be bad for your health.:D

In sweden and Norway they eat Raindeer ane Elk meat as we eat roast beef, it is much like pony and horse meat to look at, very stringy but the Elk stew is very tasty, they also make sausages and salamis these are equaly as good.

Re: Could you?

So if the first 'beef' steak you ate was crap you would never eat another?

You could have been serverd shin and be missing out on fillet for the rest of your life

WillowTheWhisp 06-03-2007 17:13

Re: Could you?

It's just a cultural thing because we have dogs as pets. Funnily enough I had pet rabbits as a child but still think rabbit stew is tasty.

Pour some tasty sauce over it a la dodgy chinese/indian and you would'nt know what was on your fork.Sauces hide a multitude of culinary nightmares.

West Ender 06-03-2007 20:04

Re: Could you?

There's a special relationship between humans and dogs, in the Western world at least, so we find the thought of eating them abhorrant. I couldn't, knowingly, eat one having had pet dogs all my life. I can't eat rabbit either, though I don't have a problem with other people eating it. When my parents kept hens, when I was a child, I could never eat one of our own - too personal - but I eat chicken.

I've eaten horse in France and Belgium, not very happily but it tasted OK, and I like venison even though Walt Disney's Bambi made me cry. I've helped to rear a few lambs but lamb is my favourite meat and I like cows but I eat beef. The close relationship isn't there, not like with dogs.

I'm not squeamish, I've eaten snails (sorry, escargot, delicious with garlic butter), camel's gonads and I love oysters etc. but dog? No way. It'd be almost like eating a person.

Come to think of it, would you eat a rat (farm reared, not wild and diseased)? I wonder if it tastes like rabbit.

entwisi 06-03-2007 20:13

Re: Could you?

absolutely. I have very few hangups about what I would (or not) eat

cashman 06-03-2007 22:40

Re: Could you?

agree with that,i tend to try most things if the opp arrives, but am a bit cautious about paying over the odds for summat i may not like.

I think your right there but would we eat it if just on the menu, I dont think many people would choose to.:)

LancYorkYankee 07-03-2007 17:18

Re: Could you?

So much is based on culture and what we're raised to eat. I grew up digging calms and quahogs then eating em raw right from the shell. Or never eating cottage cheese without alot of ketchup on it (this is not an American thing as I have never heard or seen of any other family doing this!)

Then there's the blackpudding and haggis I just had to try while over visiting. To me, that was pretty nasty tasting. Much rather have dog or guinea pig on the menu! (IMHO):D

I will have a go at pretty much anything;I had horse meat in France and it was nothing special. I have had rabbit but won't eat it now as we have one as a pet and I would not eat a guinea pig;we have one of them too and besides I would imagine they are pretty boney! I like black pudding;seafood etc but wasn't that keen on tripe !
