Police punch woman during arrest!
CCTV footage has emerged showing a young black woman, being punched five times by a police officer.
Toni Comer, 20, was arrested outside a Sheffield nightclub for vandalising a car when she was thrown out. During her arrest an officer from South Yorkshire Police said that he hit her to subdue her so she could be handcuffed. She was later dragged away with her trousers around her ankles. what do you think of this? personally after watching the news about it, they did right! but I think others will think otherwise and because she is black, they are saying it could be racial! |

she was apparently kicking, punching and grabbing his genitals.
The racial issue is a non starter, if she was bleach white and did teh same then she'd have got the same treatment. I'm getting sick of people looking for a 'racial' aspect to everything. How teh heck do they expect us to become an integrated society if all they ever do is put up barriers |

The video footage certainly looks bad. I for one wouldnt like to try to arrest a woman who has turned violent through drinking. Some say women are worse than the blokes when things have reached that stage, so I guess an element of restraint has to take place.
Having said that, if it was my daughter being beaten like that, I'd be looking for some damned good explanations from both parties. |

she apparently did £250.00 worth of damage to the car
but now shes claiming compensation from the police, what for? so she can pay her fine for criminal damage?? if it was me arresting her and she lashed out at me i would have stood on her neck!! |

Just watched it on Sky news,where they interviewed the parents and Chief constable in Sheffield.The parents are reconing she was having an epileptic fit during the arrest hence the appearance that she was resisting arrest.They also have witnesses that verify she had a seizure in the club thats why she was ejected.

saw the footage last night and her bleeting on what a victim she was trying to pass her attacking the officer off as nothing but an epeleptic fit
i bet she wasnt so anglic looking when in teh pub anyone see the guy who was on the news that within 20 seconds he wasnt even talking about the incident but was bleeting on about slavery in the deep south and black surpersion, the black guy who came on second even said it looked bad at first sight but said you can clearly see the woman was been beat on teh arm and was resisting arrest good on the police in this case i reakon the epeleptic story is a load of crap and that the witness in the pub will most definatly be friend , i have only seen one person have an epeleptic fit and they wouldnt be able to walk out of a night club ,down the road then down into a carpark .I am no expert on epilepsy but from what i have seen a person wont be in any condition to trash a car and walk anywhere but more than likely fall ti the ground and stay there it dosnt take a rocket scientist to see shes sat down with friends and said hang on ime epeleptic i can say i was having a fit and claim loads of money , if you say you saw me having a fit in teh pub you can have a slice of teh money |

It's hard to be able to say just from viewing the video footage and from interviews whether she was having a fit or not. It's possible she had some sort of mild attack inside which was mistaken for drunken behaviour and then had another attack when being arrested.
Whatever reason the policeman felt justified for hitting her 5 times with what looked like heavy blows does that even begin the excuse them for carting her away with her trousers round her ankles? That was unacceptable. She should have been covered decently when she was taken into custody. Perhaps there is a feeling that they wouldn't have done that to a white woman. |

Woman are worse then men when it comes to getting them to leave a pub/club I finished up with 8 stitches after ejecting some people from a pub a few years ago, a young girl stabbed me under the chin, i sorry to say she fininshed up on the wrong end of a big right hander:Banane36:

I'm sorry but I disagree with most. The police shouldn't have hit her like that. They are trained to restrain people correctly in a proper manner. There has been many, many times whilst on a night out I have seen police with people resisting arrest in far worse situations, and the police have managed to restrain them properly. In this situation, wether it was a man or woman, white or black, the police clearly were in the wrong and not doing their job properly. She could have been calling them allsorts and they should show some patience, in the job they do they have to.

I heard on the news this morning that the policman says he did it becuase she was being extremely violent, yet from the pictures they appeared to have her pinned down by then.
Regarding the trousers, if they came down in the struggle I suspect it's standard practice to leave them. In this day and age the police would probably get sued more for trying to pull them back up |

Police are trained not to use violence (as are doormen) I think the phrase is "reasonable force" he was in the wrong clearly! I'm not saying that the woman wasnt a nightmare or violent but if they were doing there job properly there would have been no need to punch her.

Only just watched it...the woman was violent at first but 3 policemen had her pinned down and it looks like she was subdued when one of them starts bashing her in the head...looks to me like he was dishing out his own justice.
I'd be willing to bet this would not have happend in an open street full of witnesses!....I don't think it makes any difference her being black. |

simple fact= if she had been behaving,none of this would have occured. dont buy the fit business, colour is completely irrelevant you pi** the police off, expect anything. this is LIFE.

I'm on the police side... he was punching her arm. He reported the details to the desk sergeant on return to the station, and no medical attention was needed.
Sadly the sniff of compensation will draw the hyenas (Solicitors) out.... |

i have been in situations where the police have been involved and as soon as they show up it is common sense to shut your gob , listen to what they have to say and talk calmly otherwise you will end up in teh cells for teh night regardless if you are wrong or right the silly bitch wouldnt allow them to put handcuffs on so the officer punched her arm until he was able to do so , as for the pants ending up around her ankles well my money is on teh fact thats where they would have ended up that night anyway common little tart with a bad temper and a big gob got a slap well done police |

I saw the incident video on the news this morning altho not clearly obviously showing the cops in bad light to make the news & give this woman the sympathy vote. If she had co operated & not done criminal damage then she wouldnt be in trouble - sence is to shut yer mouth & dont resisit arrest cos theres no arguing with the law!
Again the crims get a get out clause from their own stupidity & wrong doing!! Im sure they used to do worse for street calming in the days of the st riots of the 70's & 80's:rolleyes: She could of been battoned:eek: |

times have changed , women no longer sit at home while their man goes to the boozer , women of today go out , get wasted on alco pops and slash peoples faces with broken bottles and are just as capable of vindictive destruction of property as men are infact i would say they are better at it :rolleyes: |

some peope are all ready trying to compare this to that black guy in a los angeles that got hammered by a bunch of cops but this is totaly different
teh sad thing is now shes appeared on tv playing teh sweet angel she will think she can get away with anything , i just hope teh newpapers following this story catch her having another punch up next payday |

I agree that women can be nasty off the drink. And I do think that this certain woman was in the wrong for causing criminal damage. What i'm saying is that the police should have done their job properly as they are trained to do, and wether he was punching her in the arm or the head, the fact is that he was punching her and therefore not doing as he was trained. People are going on about compensation claims. Well duh, your a policeman, you punch someone repeatedly, of course they're going to claim, what do you expect. Thats what people like that do!!

Lolly, the police are trained to punch someone repeatedly on the arm, in a voilent confrontation, to enable them to use handcuffs...

as far as i,m concerned the police are doing their jobs properly by arresting nasty pieces of work n locking em up, getting them off the street to stop further mayhem. couldn,t careless how they do it.

not having seen the footage i odnt know why there should be an outcry of a cop hittin a woman - being a doorman goin into female fights is much more daunting than male fights.
with female fights ur meant to be tactful etc but the way alot of girls go on in a fight in a drunken state u have to throw alot of tactfulness away and treat them like guys. |

he wasnt doin a rodney king on her he was deadenin an arm which could've been used against him and she was willing to use it as such too nor did he attack the face or any other part of the body that wasnt nessecary... |

Thanks for the links to the footages mthead! At first I thought he was bashing her in the head. Finding it was her arm and the reason explained by the cop, I think he did right.
Just the lack of reaction by the other policeman (to the "beating") lent me to believe proper procedures were being followed. Brian |

I don't buy this epileptic seizure crap. She doesn't take drugs to combat the effects of epilepsy? She 'claims' she'd already had one seizure in the club, well, the friends I know that have epilepsy are absolutely exhausted after a seizure and wouldn't even be able to fight a hamster off.
Copper was doing his job IMHO. |

She didn't look like she'd just had an epileptic seizure when she ran like a bat out of hell up those stairs, after throwing the sign which damaged the car.

He says he hit her once and then twice more. He actually hit her 5 times. It's a bit worrying that he didn't know how many times he was hitting her. Maybe he didn't know how much force he was using either?

She's lucky she lives in England and the police have to make sure any subduing of an offender is by reasonable force. If she'd have been coming out of a club drunk, causing criminal damage and resisting arrest in, say, Spain, she'd have got a lot worse than that.
It seems extreme to us because of the softly softly approach our coppers have to adhere too. |

If she can run upstairs like that during a fit i should be a lot fitter than what i am! When i have one all i know is i feel doped up and want to go home to bed and sleep it off. If she was going into a fit while falling down the stairs then surely the policeman would have realised what was going on. The parents and the girl are using the epilepsy has an excuse and its giving us epileptics a bad name. We have enough hassles as it is without someone doing this. As far as i can see she was resisting arrest and the policeman was doing his job. |

We all know that Cash.. best thing to keep gob shut when the bill are on your case.. but i've seen this one a couple of times and in my opinion it's over the top.. I get the impression that the police are using more force than usual .. at least I hope they are.

Racism is an easy get out clause to justify what has happened. "Did you hit me cause I is black?" It runs that deep that if targeted for anything from a motoring offence to more serious issues they use rasism to deflect the real issue.
