Hes been removed from the tory front benches now. However I must add that im not sure he was intending to be racist with the words he used unless the radio didn't report everything that was said.

It did involve naming people under 'black' but im not sure if he was trying to offend or name call..

This man has been sacked for telling the truth. Racism or bigotry doesn't enter in to it. Is it not human nature to pick on what we consider to be someone's weakest point, his/her achilles hell, something we know will upset them? Name calling goes on in any group, whether it be workmates, a football crowd, a group of kids in the schoolyard, whatever. What do you call the rather rotund lad or the kid that wears specs, the spotty apprentice or the the coloured lad? It's not fattism, spectaclism, spottism or racism, it's human nature.

I couldn't agree more, it doesn't make it right though and in his position he should have known better, dont think he should've lost his job though.

Surely if this thing goes on it needs someone who stands up and says it. From what I've read HE wasn't being the racist, he was reporting what had happened in his experience.

That's how I understood it too........I think everyone gets just a bit twitched about what is, and what isn't racism.......I don't think it is racist to tell the facts....and I think David Cameron was just a tad hasty in moving this chap from the front benches.

Shadow homeland security spokesman Patrick Mercer said he had met "a lot" of "idle and useless" ethnic minority soldiers who used racism as a "cover".

Sounds a fairly racist statement to me.

Sorry, I must have missed that bit of evidence that proved 'a lot' of ethnic people are 'useless and idle'.

hey black people can be lazy too its not just white folk you know

Re: Senior Tory in racism row

He's probably met a lot of idle and useless soldiers not from ethnic minorities too. All he was doing was saying that a lot of the ones from ethnic minorities use the plea of racism as an excuse. The white ones probably try to find other excuses.

If he's just telling it like it is how can that make him a racist?

Re: Senior Tory in racism row

Coloured soldiers have fought with the British Army for centuries why has this PC nonsense just poped up now, anyone who has seved in the forces knows the score it's the same for everyone, as others have said, any sign of weakness regional accents hair colour etc, are all exploited usually by NCOs as it as a rule ceases after basic training and the 'rookies' begin to mature into real soldiers. It is a way of sorting the men from the boys, very over the top making the guy resign.
