For Who'm The Bells Tolls
 

This afternoon on TV the above mentioned film was on, starring oscar nominated artist Gary Cooper and Ingrid Bergman. This film was set in the Spanish civil war, a bitter sweet love affair, the way Gary Cooper died was a classic. Based on the Hemingway novel the way the hero died in my opinion has never been equaled, what are the members favourite TV/Screen deaths?;)

Great movie, even if Sam Woods took some liberties when casting a blond, but fabulous, Ingrid Bergman as a Spanish peasant guerrilla.:D

Favourite film death scene?
Dirk Bogarde as Aschenbach pegging out in his beach chair, to the sounds of Mahler in the background, in Visconti's Death in Venice. Sublime.:)

The saddest screen death of all time surely has to be little Margaret O'Brien, as Beth, fading away in the 1949 version of Little Women.:angel:

The best 'dier' was James Cagney as in 'heat' and also when the catholic priest persuaded the gangster, worshiped by the boys in 'Hells Kitchen' to go screaming to the 'chair', to pretend he was not the tough guy they thought he was.

Good film that Brian they don't make 'em' like that anymore, Did you see John Grishams novel made into a film version of The Chamber. There was one mentioned earlier in the thread Burt Lancaster in Ulzanas Raid. very similar to Gary Coopers 'Bells' death. Keep them coming jamesecus your in the lead so far, regards to you both Ian.

Watched Cold Mountain last week with the delectable Jude Law .. must admit to a tear at the end when after all the adventures/sufferings he encountered making his way back as a deserter from the civil war in America to his 'beau', the story polished him off after what I thought was going to be a happy ending.

I like happy endings and think may have been more tears of anger than anything. :mad:

One of my personal favorite movies, Ian. IMO, this genre does not suit Burt Lancaster's acting style very well, but he is magnificent in this one. His portrayal of Archie McIntosh -- the head Army scout who really did exist -- is wonderful and his death scene is my favorite one in movies: to me not at all melodramatic, maudlin or overacted. The movie itself is based on an actual (incredible) event during the Apache Wars period in Arizona/New Mexico. In general, it hews fairly close to historical accuracy and IMO is the best of all the Apache Wars movies.
