Well, thats that

I handed in my resignation at work yesterday. 1 months notice to go. must admit it feels a bit funny coming into work today.

Still new job awaits come Easter!

Well done Ian.:)

Was it the job I saw you shopping for a new suit for an interview for?

Congratulations.

Re: Well, thats that

It was.

Its doing what I do now but with another company for 5 and a half grand extra so jobs a good'un

I'e just had a sort of exit interview with my 'drone' boss. He genuinely can't understand the idea of a landing slot i.e. the position in life where you are happy with what you have and don't need anymore. He just kept on about "but you won't grow any more", "its not right to let your advanced skills sit stagnating".

To him life is always about the next promotion/payrise/move. I'll be honest, I'm very well paid, enjoy what I do and have a lovely family and life, what more is there?

Re: Well, thats that

Enjoying your work counts for more than aiming for promotion where you might not enjoy it.

Re: Well, thats that

about 200yards :D

I always found it weird that companies promote people to a level of incompetance e.g. your good at your job so you get promoted, your good at that level so you get promoted again, your crap at this next level so you end up stuck ata a level your no good at!

You only promote someone who has the potential to succeed at the next level. If everyone stayed at the current level they are good at there would be no one higher up.

Maybe you feel that you have reached your peek and it's time to stay at a level where you feel safe.

entwisi 09-03-2007 12:17

Re: Well, thats that

You can never be sure that someone will succeed at teh next level and those that don't get stuck there.

I don't want to be CEO, I don't even want to be a team leader or manager. I am described by my boss as" a superb techie" and thats how I want to stay. If I go much higher than I am they expect you to become 'management' and that brings loads of paperwork and stuff that I detest.

Perhaps I am lucky that I've reached the pinnacle of what I could ever wanted to achieve so early in life. didn't we have a thread about fulfillment a short while ago?

Also u may have reached the level u want doesn't mean thats it as far as achievement cept maybe on one level but there is other areas in life that are challenging & new to learn or achieve, life has habit of closing one door & opening a window:D

Well done Ian.....hope your new job is everything you want it to be....and you are right about family being important. Little ones aren't little for very long...and they are certainly something you can't put a monetary value on.

Re: Well, thats that

Well done Ian.. There are more important things in life than work. I would love nothing more than to go back a few years when, yes, I didn't get paid as much as now but I was less stressed, did less work in my own time and less paper work. I am now used to the job that I have, it will never be perfect but I am not aiming any higher. I feel that I have little enough spare time as it is.
Enjoy your new job, I hope it works out well for you.

Good luck and well done.

There's a lot to be said for happiness at work - you spend so much of your time there that it's a waste of your time to be unhappy there.

Well done Ian;I have had only a brief glimpse of the job market recently and I didn't like what I saw ! You spend more time with your work colleagues than your partner so you may as well like what you do and get on with them. Good luck mate !

Thanks for the good wishes everyone.

Only thing is despite me doing exactly what I've always done I'm now accused of being de-mob happy :D
