What will they ban next

Who decides what I eat, the government or me. Trans fats banned in New York. where will it end?. ( quote, by John Stossel ). Meat pies to be banned at the footy , food police gone mad or what,

TBH trans fats are the devils spawn. Its a modified product whose only benefit is longer shelf life. The harm it does to humans is beginning to become well known(major links to obesity and heart disese) and whilst you see it as an invasion of your choice its actually the right thing to do in this case. You will actually find that a lot of comapnies are now removing it voluntarily so you wouldn't have teh choice to carry on eating it even if you wanted

I think the Government are doing right. They have to regulate what goes into our food or who knows what the food companies would put in. Anyone want bse from a cow brain pie?

Take good old natural vegetable oils. Modify their molecular structure to create some abomination of nature and add it as an ingredient in pretty much everything that humans eat. the only benefit is that it create sa fat that has a shelf life measured in years rather than weeks.

Good old wikipedia has a nice article

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans_fats

I like the quote "the NAS has concluded there is no safe level of trans fat consumption."

Re: What will they ban next

I've read enough on the dangers associated with trans fats to know that I really don't want to eat them. The evidence is overwhelming that they are harmful to our health.

Therefore, I am certainly for banning them. Alternatively, and not nearly as good, a requirement that food manufacturers and restaurants using trans fats should be required to reveal which of their products contain this garbage.

When it comes to what is in my food, I have a right to know.

We don't elect governments to protect us from ourselves .... apart from a few of the things mentioned in the 10 Commandments. Eat right, exercise, don't drink, etc. , die anyway. Bring on the double pudding, chips and peas.

I object to a lot of the 'nanny state' nonsense but I do think trans fats should be banned because they are nasty and evil.

We do elect governments to set up laws that protect us from unlabelled hazards in the food supply, as well as other forms of pollution.

We do however expect them to protect us from nasty food companies adding dangerous things to our food that we are not a where of.
