Trip to the Vets?

1 Attachment(s)
Benji's adult teeth are coming through but the puppy teeth haven't come out yet, result - 4 fangs
Seems to be a common problem with Yorkshire terriers, do I take him vets or wait a week or two to see if they come out, what do your think?

Wait.

Unless its causing him hurt or distress.

I personally will keep my dogs AWAY from the vets unless its deamed necessary.

There is ALWAYS a risk when they use Anastetic and unfortunatly I have had to experiance that, and it was for a tooth out.:(

Re: Trip to the Vets?

Thanks MrD, it's not causing him any distress or pain, i'm hoping that the adult teeth will push out or loosen the puppy teeth, i'll give it a week or two and see what happens but will go to the vets if he seems to have any trouble with them

They should come out naturally as nature intended, vets are very fond of taking your money off you, as ***Mr D*** say's they may do more harm than good, my advice is give the dog something to chew and they will drop out.

A Nyla Bone would do the trick.

Yeah, seems to be a common problem with Yorkshire terriers, have to be removed by surgery in a lot of cases.

1. I'm hoping they do but as I said above they are known for not falling out, this then leads to other problems in the mouth.
2. They won't get my cash unless its needed, the dog won't suffer in any way though, if he needs to go to the vet I will take him.
3. My fingers his favourite thing to chew on :D he's got loads of chewy things, balls, raw-hide sticks etc

They are rock solid.

http://www.nylabone.com/

I got one for my dogs to share and within 2 month it was damaged, I email Nylabone In the USA and within a week they sent me 2 replacements worth £15.00 Each.

My vet isnt like this. We had to have our dog put down last night :( and they were brilliant, of course they charged us, but it wasnt there number 1 priority. In fact we havent paid yet. My Mum was so upset, the vet just told us to go home and they will send a bill.

As for your problem K.S.H. We had ours since she was a pup, she was a terrier and she always had the four fangs, her puppy teeth never came out. She was 16 years old and never had a problem.

How big is your baby now Tinks?

Oh Lolly I so sympathise with your loss. A loved pet is part of the family. It's awful when you have to make that final decision.

I hope your Benji's teeth do come out on their own K.S.H. Our Trudi (a Yorkie) used to demolish those hide bone chews. They can really get their teeth into those which might work better than a nyla. She never bothered with the latter at all, just left it lying there.

BIG! LOL! I swear she falls asleep and literally grows infront of my eyes. She's so good as well, really well behaved. The only issue we have with her is jumping up at certain visitors, not good when she already weighs about 6 stone and is only 5 month old lol! She's turning into a lovely looking dog, really bonny girly face :)

Re: Trip to the Vets?

i honestly wudnt worry bout the puppy teeth

i am part of a rescue for rottweilers and we very rarely use a vet even for the most ill treated dogs who come into our care due to having a very good dog person within the rescue who is very good at treating dogs after 20 yrs of working with them, but when we do need to use a vet in lancashire we use 1 at whalley who are very good value

althou all dogs vist the vets to be netuered before moving onto their new homes....dont fancy DIY netuering lol

Cheaper in the long run to have the fangs removed, and get him some false ones.:D

Someone told me at work yesterday that there is a vets in Rawtenstall that does free consultations on a Wednesday, I'll see if I can find out more about it
