I wasn't aware of that info, I do suspect they aren't the only three out there and whilst I will defend the vast majority of employees against the odd dodgy one, I'm with you on this one. I do feel there will always be human cost (The employees over there etc) but they certainly could look to sell that component to another instituition to cleanse their soul.

It was well worth paying £10 for the tine dialer because you could use it to get free phone calls from BT phone boxes. Did you ever wonder why the new phone boxes were still on pulse dial when everyone had a tone dial phone at home?

The scam worked like this:
You dialled 99 on the payphone buttons. The phone then expected you to dial another 9 for the emergency services and that the call was a free call. The phone stupidly waited until you dialed the last 9 before it sent the tones for 999 to the exchange. Here is where the tone box comes in, after dialing the 99 on the phones buttons it switched to free and you then dialed your number on the tone box. This told the exchange the number you want and it connected you, the phone box did not charge because it was still waiting for the last 9 and it to be a free call.

Students were doing it all the time ringing home, friends etc. As a quick fix around it they set all the pay phones to pulse only and told the exchange to ignore tones from the pay phone.

Phone boxes pulsed out for years after that. It must have been quicker than modifying the phone box itself. I am not sure if they still pulse dial or tone dial as I have not used one for a long time. Someone must have used one and can tell us.

I'm amazed the students could actually get the blessed thing to work! We were forever having people bring them back in complaining. The manager tried to use one with the phone we had in branch to show them how to do it and it wouldn't work! :D

im sure its not just barclays i,m willing to bet that theyre all at it ... like whats been said they are a business and need to make money , but conning folk isnt the way to do it..

Banks are a business and have to make money or go to the wall, the only diference between a rogue builder and banks is a rogue builder takes the money in one lump sum, and the banks take it by installments.

As said they all are there to make profit.

I see a lot of people who are with there bank for Insurance, mainly household and the premiums that they charge are very very expensive.

I would say most people who insure with a bank could save upto 50% by going to a Insurance Company who know what they are doing.

Infact a recent customer of mine who left barclays in accrington was wrongly advised by them regarding his insurance when he said he was leaving them.:(

And you Dont have to have it in with your mortgage, another bank lie, I have had commented to me.

Bank + Lies = Profit.

Ah well im doing right then cos im with an insurance co lol, tho had a strange incident regarding recent mail i've been getting at my address tho the person named dont live here, well one has to investgate these things in the name of fraud so looked at the mail [sue me] & someone is trying bless to insure this addy for contents insurance [nice tho wish they told me before i renewed mine:D] me thinks the bank has fluffed up as person has claimed to have lived here a year erm but i've been here 5 1/2 years:confused: [i havent moved out lol] - so all mail is returned to sender till they get the message!!!!

I fell into that trap Mr D insuring with the bank, all they do is pass you on to a high tarriff company and take a commission, going to a broker saved me 60% as I had 1 years no claims bonus, the only reason I looked elswhere was the banks insurers wanted to increase my premium, robbing gets.

It is so true the savings can be HUGE I would advise Anyone who insurers threw a bank to try a broker.

Average saving over the last 10 customer I have personally serverd moving them from banks is average £200.00 per customer. This is better In the Customers Pocket IMO.Ssometime they even get BETTER cover as they have been sold a product by someone who knows about insurance and not a target meeting bank clerk.
