Theres a review gong on as Prince Harry has given the MOD an ultamatum, 'let me go on the from line in Iraq or i'll quit the army!'

Think he's right, he has made his pledges to the army just like any other soldier to fight, so why should it be different if he risks his life like many many other brave soldiers have???? Surely cant have 1 rule for royalty & other for commoners??

Well Baz whats different between a royal blood soldier & the rest of the soldiers fighting for their country ???? Its ok for a commoner to risk their lives for this country & a royal one cant because he's royal????

He is presumably being paid by the taxpayer to do a job, so he just do do what he is paid for.

I don't see anything wrong with the statement, at least not since the divine right of Kings crap was thrown out. In a constitutional demaocracy the point is that royalty are like the rest of us. In the great republic to the south of me, I do not think that there are any sons, daughters, grandchildren etc. of Senators serving in the US armed forces. Perhaps it is an argument for the English system. In times of war, members of the Royal family do fight. The Prince of Wales fought in the Great War, Prince Andrew in the Falklands war. (And that great monarchist, Churchill, when disgraced unfairly over Gallipoli, took up his commision and headed for the Western Front.)

Its a publicity stunt. If he goes the General staff will find the safest job and place for him. He has to obey orders the same as any other soldier so he can either like it or lump it.

i was actually born in blackburn and left to live in accrington until i was

sixteen, its a wonderful place, just as lovely as yorkshire cheeky sod.:)

Surely one of the serious problems with this whole thing is the afct as a royal he will undoubtedly be a target for every terrorist group in the area- what about the poor sods serving under him who would be caught in the cross fire simply because he is there platoon leader.
Think it is more likely that he will go but that like his Uncle Andrew will be kept sufficiently out of harms way to avoid too many problems.

It might set a presidance that any soldier could say that they too are to important to be sent into a battle zone.

Dont think he is too important at all but I do think life is important and why should some poor sod soldier be put in an increasingly dangerous position simply because they have the misfortune to be led by the son of James Hewitt.

yes i read about it in one of the papers and seen it on the news about sending out there but he won,t be at the front line like the rest of them but i think my self that they are only sending him out there now but why not at the beginng but thats what i think any way but he won,t be out there long .
