FIRE!! ... Where?
It's just been on Rock fm that there's serious traffic congestion around Burnley Road and Whalley Road due to a big fire in Accrington. That's the way I take the kids to school, I didn't see anything :confused:
Does anyone know where this supposed 'big fire' is? |

I beleive they have closed off Eastgate. Is that the bit between Broadway and top of bus station ?
Certainly no problems on the main road whatever that is called when I went over to Nelson this morning. |

I heard about it on 2BR, there is a few lines on their website;
Music Shop FireAn investigaton's underway after a fire at a shop in Accrington. Crew were called out to Music Box on Water Street yesterday afternoon.It's thought all the musical instruments on the first floor have been damaged by heat, while the stock room in the basement was flooded. |

Hmmm, I live in that area and can't see anything..:confused: They did close off part the centre last night though, about 6.30pm, traffic was not allowed down near the Hope and Anchor from Eastgate, there were fire engines, police and heavy lifting gear present.

Its bad enough that shops in Accy close without someone destroying one of the sucessful ones being destroyed. All that damage even with insurance could force it to close. The damage cost of a 100k would be enough to shut it permenently.

The music shop has been there for as long as i can remember with passing it to get home from town when young be sad to see it go completely.

Yeah we've been in a few times, needed a recorder for one of the kids and another time we needed reeds for a clarinet that she was learning. I wouldn't know where else to look for specialist music items.

LOL i got my proper recorder from there, & eldest for reeds, in fact got a spare new reed which i got from there, i think you'd have to go to Burnley & Blackburn probably for instrument needs which would be a real shame for Accrington.

Just goes to show it was an asset to the town. Its all the regular customers I feel sorry for and as you say mel its to Burnley or Blackburn now. I take it the Accordian that was in the window copped it as well, which is a pity as I liked it. :(

I hope they are fully insured. It will be ages before that looks anything like a shop again though. :( That was one of my favourite shops. I sincerely hope they do catch whoever did it if it was arson AND I hope that they get more than a slap on the wrist. That was a terrific shop and I'm really going to miss it. I do hope they get back into business again.

A real shame,one of a handful of specialist shops gone.No doubt if it does'nt reopen it will be replaced by a £ shop or another discount shoe shop with a proud PB on the front page declaring that 4 full time jobs have been created for east europeans & Accrington centre is again on the up:mad:
