Beggers
When mick was away on Thursday a knock came at my door. on opening it an Asian woman pushing a pram with a baby in it, was muttering something about Muslims.
Thinking she had the wrong house I pointed to next door. Next Minuit she's pushing a note in my hand. The note said " I am a Muslims and I have No money for food. Can you give me some. " I was totally and utterly gob smacked. Thought these people took care of their own. Told her I have no money either. The Cheek of it! |
Re: Beggers
I wonder why panhandlers always hang out near the liquor store?
What would happen if the beggars were completely honest about what they wanted the money for: Like "Hey man I really need to get high, can you spare enough for a gram."? I don't lack sympathy for the needy, but in my community they do not starve and there are homeless shelters ... many more in winter of course. I find that using the baby to get sympathy and cash is more than a little too much. |
Re: Beggers
You could have given her a pork scratching.:D
|
Re: Beggers
That is weird and scary in a way. Never heard of it happening so there is a first time for everything like the one who was selleng the big issue on Broadway when I was down. So maybe they arnt as different or a part of a community as we think.

Re: Beggers
*LOL*
firstly they're not muslims. they're romanians/bosnians. they have a gimmick and htey like to play on it. i was on wilmslow rd and some guy came to us holding that paper we jsut told him to go away. later he comes into the take away and orders a huge meal and then carries on beggin with the punters inside the shop these ppl are nothing short of thieves so u gotta beware of them my old mum being gullible thought fair enough i'll give one some old pair of sandals that were in the shop that had been in stock some time ago and didnt shift. next thing you know she told the other beggers workin the area and we had an invasion of them. i literally had to push them outta the door for them to leave. later we realised theyd stolen a few items but by then they were long gone. what you should do is call the police as they're most likely illegal immigrants and even if they are asylum seekers they shudnt be begging. i've had a few arrested in my time. :D i dont mind beggers but thieves i do. i feel sorry for the kids too esp as they get dressed to look poor and i'm sure are really really cold just for the sake of them lookin "needy" |
Re: Beggers
just comin back to the muslim point
the reason anne gave lookin after hteir own - chances are they're a part of a bigger gang who know ppl will give money to weary lookin mothers etc adn if they come across a muslim household the chances increase of them getting a charitable donation if they say they're muslim. not saying christians are stingy or owt but its one of the main things that muslims have to give a certain percentage of their earnings to charity hence... thats why they claim to b muslim. these guys cant even recite the kalma/ the prayer which every muslim shud know let alone go around claiming to be one. |
Re: Beggers
 the cheek of it!!!
better not come to my house:mad: , ill set me son on em;) , with pork scratchings:D |

Re: Beggers
i suppose its similar in a way to the people who put leaflets through your door about clothes recycling....these people DO NOT recycle the clothes, they take then to another country and sell them, this was on watchdog a few weeks ago, i was gobsmacked at the thought of them selling them on to make a profit (for themsleves NOT a charity), apparantly most of these people are asylum seekers and sometimes pinch certain charities bags to make it look like they are part of the charity itself (great ormond street etc...)
so beware of these people who will think nothing of conning us into 'recycling' our unwanted clothes |
Re: Beggers
The ones which are a genuine charity should have a contact number on and details of the charity, registered number and all that sort of thing.
|
Re: Beggers
thats where they know what they are doing willow, they do put contact details on them AND so called registered charity numbers............right say if i where to distribute leaflets and just put random numbers on the bottom of it, and call myself a registered charity, and put my phone number on them, how many people WOULDNT bother checking it out? i know i certainly wouldnt...ive recieved loads of these leaflets since i watched watchdog, and they have there uses....they do end up doing something for the world.......COS THEY END UP IN MY RECYCLING BAG!!!

I thought it would have been a few more months before they reached Accy, but if they are there now, then beware. Other than the mother/baby begging scam, watch out for an invaision of their kids, especially in the pubs; a couple of 'em will go in and cause a bit of havoc while a few more or their adults will get to work on lifting handbags, mobiles, etc. Funnily enough, its not just the Romanians we're seeing begging here now; the Poles have started it. I had one accost me on sunday and he turned up again last night although he shot off when I offered to throw him in the dock if I saw him asking for money again. |
Re: Beggers
It's a bit grim if you're not safe from them in your own home.

They have been on the loose in Nelson recently;

Re: Beggers
It seems to be getting a real problem, but what can we do about it? like any
nationality I'm sure there must be good and bad but we only seem to hear about the bad |
Re: Beggers
what i'm afraid of is that if htey're actually part of a larger scheme to organised gangs etc... i wouldnt b surprised that they were made to do this in exchange for stayin in the uk - obviously they dont have a clue what the EU membership etc is...

Re: Beggers
And what if- just for instance of course, that there was to actually be a genuine, hungry, penniless MOTHER trying anything in her despiration to get money.
I have been particularly intetrested to read some of the comments posted here from supposed christians if other threads are anything to go by. Do con artists exist? Yes Are there some scum bags out there? Yes of course there are. Is this everyone who finds themself begging? Of course NOT. I cannot believe the level of blatant racism on display in many of these previous threads. Truly disgusting. |

Re: Beggers
It may well be the case that some of these women are not entitled to any benefits. I once looked after a lady whose husband was murdered in Pakistan. She fled the country with a small child and another on the way. She only had distant family in this country and although allowed to stay here, she was not entitled to anything. This lady did not beg, she was cared for by the community she lived in. She stayed in somebody's empty house, had no furniture and just the clothes she came here with. She did housework in return for food but despite her poverty would not entertain the idea of going back to Pakistan as she was frightened for her life.
I often wonder what became of her. |

Re: Beggers
I wouldn't have given her any money either, I would've directed her to Maundy Grange I think. The thought of someone coming to my door begging frightens me enough to report it to the police, if she's genuine then she'll get help.

Re: Beggers
Most of these so called beggars have like a beggin pimp, so its not neccessarily the beggar that gets all the dosh but the people exploiting these immigrants:rolleyes:

No there is a fear of engaging with governmnet departments and authority if your previous experience of authority is to avoid it at all costs because you might end up dead. I recently worked with a family of refugees from Rwanda who were in this country completely legally. They had not accessed virtually any of the support to which they were entitled nor had they reported 26 criminal offences committed against them- including the serious assault of the 14 year old son and an arson attack on their property- because they were literally terrified of any and all 'official' bodies. Part of this fear being borne of the fact that their previous involvement with the Police in their own country had resulted in the gang rape of the Mother and the 13 year old daughter of the family. The motivation for these offences for anyone interested was of course that they were 'illegal immigrants, coming over here taking our jobs, spongeing of us as taxpayers' etc. etc. the usual ignorant racist bull****. I ultimately also worked with 6 of the offenders responsible for the majority of these offences all of whom were between 16 and 29 and none of whom could actually point to Rwanda on a map. |

question ......why does it seem that Britain is responsible for looking after every stray dog in the world ? When I was in school I was taught that Rwanda was a Belgium colony/protectorate, so where are the historic links ? unlike with the folks from commonwealth countries where there may be a moral obligation to offer some aid , though I'm not sure about this , since its not that long ago they were dancing in the streets and demanding Independance and the British out . Same with the Serbs/Croats/Bosnians, these folks should be Turkeys problem (original colonial owners) How do these people get to the UK in the first place, surely Britian isn't the first country they enter after leaving their homeland , ( just checked and niether British Airways nor easyjet have direct flights to the UK)   |
Re: Beggers
No steeljack but we are the damn softest with our borders & our aid, the UK is seen as paved with gold & a soft touch:(

No doubt Remedi will call me a rascist *** for that answer but I have yet to understand why if people are fleeing for their lives they don't feel safe in a safe country when passing through to get here ? |

They interviewed immigrants passing thro france & they said they want to go to the UK cos the uk will provide them with a better life, security, housing, etc even said that the uk was paved with gold for them:( |
Re: Beggers
Lets let them die in their own country then and stop bothering us. Why on earth wouldn't you want the best possible life for yourself and for your family if fleeing some of the horrors that they have faced.
Are there illegal immigrants?- Yes of course there are but there is an inherent risk with branding the entire immigrant population in this manner. There seems to a suggestion that I should not respond to some of the previous posts by saying they are racist but there are racist attitudes on display. If you dont want to be called a racist dont make racist comments. |

I hazard a guess that this symbol means that you dont understand. I think you probably need to read a better paper and consider the levels of assault, arson attack etc committed against the immigarnt populations in these countries (and yes this does happen in Britain as well). Also consider the wider support the far right has in these countries. |

I understand that children are 'borrowed' from other beggars to be used in what might be described as emotional blackmail. I consider this to be abuse. I don't give hard cash to anyone who begs although I have no problem buying them some food, but occasionally this is a mistake. A friend of mine gave a couple of Greggs pasties to a beggar sat outside Woolies on Broadway and was thanked by having them thrown back at her accompanied by a barrage of abuse. Obviously not as hungry as he made out!! JB |
Re: Beggers
Personally, I do not part with cash to anyone at my front door unless I owe it to them. Therefore, I will happily pay my window cleaner at the front door but nobody else. This is not racist but sensible, it does not mean that I am not charitable but I will not be scammed by anyone and people asking for money in any way shape or form starts to ring alarm bells in my head. I will not give bank details at the door or over the phone but I have donated to several charities so far this year. These donations have been through sponsorship, ie walks, London Marathon etc...
I do not see the refusal to give money to a beggar as racist, it is personal choice (something that we are all entitled to). We have all seen instances where throwing money at problems does not solve them, even TB has admittd this recently. I would direct door to door beggars to Maundy Grange. |
Re: Beggers
it was sooooooo funny today.
those romanian beggers were at it again today - this time outside the mosque at friday prayers - stood outside doin the whole allah will bless u thing. two women and a kid of around 6-7. everyone just blanked them and walked on. i thought more would've fallen for it but thankfully they didnt. after they were over they were up and down blackburn rd doin the whole knockin on doors routine... in light of the elections i think we should bring this up to our newly elected council chambers... oh and then i saw a real clash of cultures. working in manc *they're there too* a woman approached a girl who was clearly upset having lost her bag for some beggin money and the girl just snapped. does it effing look like i have a penny to give u!? as she swung her arm knocking the cup outta her hand. small pleasures make you smile. |
Re: Beggers
they shouldnt come into this country bloody begging, probably not even supposed to be here!!
is it just me or do the romanian men give you the creeps, everytime i see one i get shivers, they look evil!! |
Re: Beggers
Any aggressive begging gives me the creeps.
|
Re: Beggers
They have been at it again. different woman same writing on note. When she opened her gob she had loads of gold teeth. If I hadn't been so tired after working a fourteen hour shift I would have told her to sell her teeth instead of pestering me.

Re: Beggers
Yes but these leaflets are delivered by people who are not postmen and they dont have the addresses on which is a good thing as most of them look like they couldnt read it anyway

Re: Beggers
