I believe it was 300 years ago today that the Kingdom of Great Britain, made up of the Kingdoms of England and Scotland, came into being.

Something to ponder in these days of devolution.

We have May Queen Day in our village, with a May Queen, a Rose Queen, a carnival parade with floats and bands, a fete and Maypole dancing. It's a lovely day out - but it's always held on the 2nd Saturday in June!
