Well, I've just spent a choking three hours not able to leave the last orders, as desperate as I was to get home to feed my cat, (to anything!), thick acrid smoke, where do I sign up to put a claim in?:rolleyes:

I've just seen Mani's piccys. They're excellent, as usual.

I would assume that beside the Fire Brigade, the cops would also have been in attendance; therefore, could someone please explain why all those kids were allowed such proximity to the blaze?

being so close to the location naturally we got to the fire not soon after the first few fire engines got there. to be fair to them they were all parked up where the doctors surgery was BUT the police were very slow coming we had for about 15/30 mins just one female cop to help out and she was tryin to route the traffic so that the fire engines had enough space to get thru.

the kids u see in the pics are nothing - 10 mins later i walked around to the doc surgery side to see what was happening it that whole road was full of the kids

well i went past tommyblanks today they were open no sign of a fire till you look down the back street it was a skip full of tyres that was well a blaze i thout i was dreaming at first:)

I was surprised when I went past today to see neatly stacked tyres in the yard looking as if there'd never been a fire anywhere near them.

We were in the back room last night and I didn't come on here so I had no idea there'd been a fire until a friend told me this morning. Her lads had gone off to track it down and reported back that it was Tommy Blanks.

Brilliant photos Mani. The one in the Telegraph looks doctored to me - like a bit overdone on the red background compared to your similar shots.

the red did seem excessive - it was never that red unless they took that pic later there was an old fella there with a decent lookin camera

You would think with tommy blanks been on fire a few times over the years they would have a storage unit for the tyres or get them removed say monthly.

I live around 2 mins walk from there and it did stink it smelt like burnt toast at first then that awful rubber smell kicked it!

A friend of mine down the bottom end of Clayton could smell it from there! She thought it was her washing machine about to blow up.

We smelt nothing. Maybe it was down to which way the wind blows.

That looks a mess, what's left, but oddly there are loads of intact tyres in the yard at the Willows Lane side.

It is, we used to take them to the carpet underlay company on Broadway Haslingden they only took 2 sizes 13s and 14s, £4.00 a time, (charge).
If the sidewalls are undamaged the remoulders took them free, but tyre disposers are now strictly monitored and rightly so. I do not know how this fire was started, but if it was my yard I would not be doing any crying, just cartwheels down the road.:rolleyes:
