should i have been informed
today a neighbour came around to tell me that our local housing association has had a complaint about the kids in our area,a neighbour has complained saying that the kids are kicking footballs into his driveway, now these teens have been hanging around outside where we live but only 1 (a girl ) lives here, the rest are boys from the village (who do not live in the h/a houses) that have been playing with the football, the neighbour (not a tenant) has complained and our h/a has been out to see him and has given him a video camera to film the kids and to get evidence of whats going on,now my problem is my 4-7-9 yr olds play out the front of our house where the teens play, my question is why have the h/a not informed me that they have allowed the filming of kids including mine without my consent,i only found out because the h/a told the tenant who,s daughter hangs around with the lads otherwise i would not have known,do i not have rights in the sense that i dont want my kids filmed,

Re: should i have been informed
I'm not sure where you stand legally Jacky, I know I wouldn't want anyone filming my kids without me knowing.
|
Re: should i have been informed
Seems like a bit of a legal grey area. Can understand why they want evidence but young kids at play is something different. Citizens Advice for this one is your best bet then you can be sure where you stand.

Re: should i have been informed
thanks for the advice i think i will give both the h/a and the cab a ring tomorrow, hope that he hasnt done any filming yet, just told hubby on phone at work about it he's going mad about it,hate to see whats gona happen when he gets back home in the morning

Re: should i have been informed
id have gone round and told him he cant film my kids, and play hell to the housing association!
|
Re: should i have been informed
ive never seen the fella before, its only a small village with 6 h/a houses, but yeah you live in social housing and you get the blame for everything, you would think that the h/a would have done some research to find out if the lads did actually live in there houses, which they dont

Re: should i have been informed

Re: should i have been informed
this might seem a bit rash but phone the police and tell them that a man has been filming your kids - give his address and you can bet your last biscuit they will be at his door in no time, they will ask if he has been doing so and if he says yes they will obviously ask why ? - then you will find out if its legal or not - and whether you should have been informed - if its not leagl then thats a matter between the guy and the police to sort out but like I say - it might sound rash but cuts out the middle man so to speak and will get you the answer you require double quick..

Re: should i have been informed
good thinking, but i think the thought of knowing he's there filming whilst my kids are there, and my 4yr old daughter who plays out in her school skirt,i dont even want to think about it,this man could be a pedophile and use thse imiges before he gives the camera back to the h/a

Re: should i have been informed
if it was me - personally speaking I would pin him to a wall if I found out he was filming my kids - seriously, he can explain after I have let go of his neck, and then I would call the police - if he wants to argue about it then thats fine with me, but I would probably be on an assault charge, - when its something like that - actions first police second - but thats my own opinion,

Re: should i have been informed
you can still film your kids at our school but theres a process to go through,1st you have to inform the school that you want to film for eg.sportsday then the school inform all parents that you want to they then the parents have to give their written concent saying if you can or cant,if someone says no then you cant film or take pictures, but we havnt had that yet

Everyone knew and warned young lads/kids to stay away from places ( certain town center public convieniences/certain stretchs of the canal bank/ areas of the barbary coast in Blackburn) where the 'flashers and gropers hung out so its not a new phenomenon .  |

I suspect that you will be the first to complain to the housing association when one of these kids hanging around throws a brick through your window. Then you will be asking what they are going to do about it and they might lend you a camcorder to catch them in the act next time. We are all filmed as we go about our daily lives. We are supposed to be having a full sized CCTV camera about 30 yards from my house. I think everyone should have cameras around their house, I have. With enough CCTV coverage we should be able to catch the local nuisance offenders. Here is a quote from this thread Quote:

[quote=Neil;426481]They don't tell you because if it gets back to the ones they are after there might be reprisals. The man doing the filming might find all his windows put through or worse.

With enough CCTV coverage we should be able to catch the local nuisance offenders. why would i inform the h/a if the kids dont live here, what does it have to do with the h/a if a non h/a tenant throws a brick through my window, and as for cctv in shops we know they are there,i wasnt informed by the h/a that he was given the camera to film my kids, the fact is its a ball going into the neighbours drive, the kids are going in and getting the ball nothing else, its not the kids from the h/a that are kicking the ball into his drive ,so what has it got to do with the h/a,are you telling me that you dont mind anyone filming your kids because thats how your coming accross |
Re: should i have been informed
I did not say I would not mind my kids being videoed. What I was trying to say was that I don't mind CCTV being used to reduce crime/sort out social nuisance etc. Unfortunately the two go hand in hand. I have a camera on my house. I have not told anyone but the Police seem to know it is there, I have had them ask if I could look at a certain time to see if anything was captured after an incident a few weeks ago.
Do you use the bus? Many buses now have CCTV fitted. Do you use Taxi's, same there. |
Re: should i have been informed
no i drive,my kids are too young to use a bus/taxi its 3 buses to our nearest town ,i understand that the 2 go hand in hand but my points are why have our h/a who the neighbour is not a tenant of,been given a camera from the h/a to film kids that are from the h/a and neighbouring houses, when the kids that are kicking the football into his drive are not from the h/a,and not informed me a tenant that my kids may be caught on film,im not having a go at you neil im just concerned for my kids

Re: should i have been informed

Surely he is filming on his driveway only then, your kids shouldnt be in there??? Also do you know what type of camera he has been given? is it one he can recover film or onto a hard disc so only the H/A people can view it. I totally agree with regards to the filming of kids is a BIG NO NO, but is this person actually filming the kids or just his own property, boundary?? |
Re: should i have been informed
i phoned just after 12 he's not back yet i was told he will ring me when he gets in,but as for your point mr d ,i havnt been given any info from the h/a about anything, the driveway is where the kids are kicking the ball, and if you see what i first wrote i said its not any kids from our h/a houses that are kicking the ball onto the mans drive, this mans drive is on the main road my kids stay on our drive that is blocked off and down the side of his drive, you cant get to his drive from anywhere but the main road, the info i was given from my nextdoor neighbour (not the complainant)was that the h/a came out told him why he has been given a camera,we havnt been told if it is only his drive he is allowed to film if this is the case then thats fine as my kids dont go onto his drive,i dont see where youve got (that my kids go on his drive)ive stressed this in my thread

I know the council (as example) has some sofisticated cameras that can be aquired to help film anti social neighbours, and can be used in court as evidence. Can you not just ask the neighbour what his intentions are with the camera and voice your concerns. |
Re: should i have been informed
i have never seen the man to date,im just waiting on a call from the anti social officer from our h/a to ring me,to explain whats going on,as all the info i have is what the h/a have said to my neighbour
|
Re: should i have been informed
well just got the news from the h/a saying that he can only use the camera on his drive his front door and his back door,i was told that if he is seen using it in any other way that we have to contact the police, the h/a explained to the man that he cannot use it other than the three area's said, now i need not worry,do you know i feel that i may have overeacted, but it was only for the protection of my kids

Re: should i have been informed
no you didnt over react, you just did what most of us parents would have done!
|
Re: should i have been informed
Better safe than sorry.
Burn his house down now.:D |
Re: should i have been informed
It is a fine line. Would you be pleased if he videoed someone beating your kids up and they caught the attackers?

Although at least you did something about it if he was a weido you would of been on to him, and now you know where he is allowed to film you can rest easy.:) |
Re: should i have been informed
I agree you've every right to over react Jacky, I would have done the same and infact I dont think you did over react you had a right to know.
|
Re: should i have been informed
Like you said, you needed information. What you did was sensible, and wasn't an over reaction.
