seen in the headlines of todays telegraph but didnt buy because i hadnt enough cash on me:( ...about a postman being sacked for mimicking a asian accent!!!!!!
i dont know the full story, wonder if anyone else does??

I was at a taxi rank and a group of drivers (all Asian), were extracting the whatsit from another taxi driver, (also Asian), they were all putting on heavy accents and laughing, when I was being taken home the driver was speaking with a lancashire accent so I asked him what had been going on, he told me that the other bloke had only just arrived from pakistan and they had been making fun of his accent and his habits.

So is it alright for these men to make fun of each other or should the taxi drivers all be sacked?

Maybe the race card was played hence his sacking. As for the taxi drivers they could suffer the same fate if they were born in England they are English. The target drive was born in Pakistan so they are being racist.

The whole carry on reeks of PC gone bad. If people dont want to speak to others then that shouldnt be held against them. As for the banter and ripping of collegues its normal and if they applied this where I work half the factory and most off the office based staff would have been dismissed over the years. We have multiple races and cultures and they all give as good as they get without any animosity or moaning. If it was as serious as they are trying to make out then why didnt they do something about it without all this palavour thats shown its face. If people want a job that has no humour or lght heartedness during the working day they had better apply for a job as a Whitehall civil servent.

i think its stupid but i dont think the underlyin cause was perhaps the mimicing. maybe there was more to it but in the end when push come to shove they felt they had to sack him rather than keepin him on and him becoming a liability to the place

Do feel a little more to this than mere teasing... gosh, I tease my Lebonese colleague all the time for his accent ... I should be so cheeky .. the guy speaks four languages for heavens sake ! All in good fun and he loves it ..I HOPE !! Better think twice next time though. :eek:

think there has been jokes told over the years with, scottish,irish,welsh,jewish,pakistani,german, and many more (COCKNEY) being one accents, these are not racist,just good crack, seems to me there is far more to this than the telegraph is saying.i worked at some crap firms and good uns, and fail to see how this alone resulted in the guys dismissal.well knowing that unions are weaker than they used to be, i also cannot see how they never got a result if mimicking an accent is all it was.

well have read the article in the telegraph and it seems it was for a lot more than just the mimicking ... and he had been warned before about his conduct...there was another postman who was also suspended but he got his job back as he showed remorse as the one that was sacked didn't seem to give two hoots

It said in Thursday's Telegraph that it wasn't the asian chap who was being mimicked who complained,it was another asian chap who heard it who made the complaint and apparently he has complained before about other people and got them sacked too!

The Postmen at Accrington have had two meetings at our club within a week this could lead to a national stike if some common sense is not shown. According to a letter in Fridays Lancashire Telegraph 1/6/07 one of the sacked postmen who the writer names(i wont) Has been "a cheerfull kind considerate postman for17 years and is still considered our postie by those on his round". How can these faceless bureaucrats come to such stupid BNP fueling decisions so lightly, Why do they always take the side of the 'ethnic minority' what ever happened to 'when in Rome' etc, this is such a trivial matter it is beyond belief.
