I was talking to someone a few months ago about those trees and apparently they were free so that's why they were planted.

The masterplan for the paths, habitats and signs is starting this month and should be completed for the Autumn. There is £1m of funding going into the area covering Plantation Street to the Griffin by REMADE (LCC & GOVT OFF NW)

And all this without a Panopticon.

Are you not supposed to get a visit from Mrs Knight riding naked on a steaming old nag with blazing red eyes for using THAT word.

I like the trees very much, however, feel as you do Magpie, last time I did the Coppice, parked up over the King's Highway ... over the tops, then down and up again from the bowling green, felt very nervous on my own walking back up and thought could be so easy to get attacked without anyone noticing.

Would be a different kettle of fish though if I had had some nice gentleman to hold my hand up that path, as lovely cover if you wished a diversion now and then .. :D;)

Wouldn't it be very funny to see Gayle riding naked on Rindys shoulders with her whipping his backside with a riding crop?
Or is it just me that has those type of dreams? :D

To be fair I have not been upto the coppice since a few years ago when i launched 2 rockets with my son, lost them both, they came back to earth in the trees somewhere

I remember going upto the monument over 25 years ago and it was full of graffitti then

Re: The Coppice

Don't these concerns about safety say more about people's perceived fears than it does about trees?

Talking about Panopticons, I went to see the Singing Ringing Tree this afternoon. Lovely location up at Crown Point and even on such a poor day, I could identify the peaks of the Yorkshire Dales. The sculture itself is noth special close up, but when viewed in context it had a certain power. Certainly worth a trip and a walk.

I remember the Coppice before those foreign trees were planted, they should have planted indiginous trees and the wildlife would not have deserted the Hill. Birds and naural wildlife will not live there as it is not their natural environment, Douglas Firs ans Scandanavian trees do not belong here, When will they learn!

Re: The Coppice

Save the trees! Is this safety thing a genuine issue? If so, are there any places left where you good folks feel comfortable walking?

Ah, Ianto, you nipped in ahead of me. Didn't realize that the trees in question were of foreign extraction.

I have found wildlife to be very adaptable, though.
