Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
Just wanted to take this time to "discuss" my good feelings over my trip. It was so very nice to meet many of you. I so enjoyed my time spent at Ianto's home (and later early day pub experience), Rindy's home, Willow's neighbor's home;), and especially the time spent with mez and Susan and all the folks who stopped by for a visit:p.
The food (meat and potato pies, fish and chips, eccles cakes, etc) was absolutely spot on as was my culture lessons. Got to see real live chavs/hooligans and the many "Asians" that have been discussed on Accyweb. It was ashame that I didn't get to see those who have "drifted" off Accyweb. Would have so enjoyed to meet you guys. Thanks to all who allowed me to share a bit of my Faith with them. I trust I was able to show you a different view of what "religion" or better, of my simple beliefs. Please feel free to ask me any questions. For those who accepted the little booklet and/or CDs of a couple of our services, I hope you share those with others who showed an interest. I look forward to my return. This trip allowed me to feel much closer to many of you guys. Please feel free to have a go at a visit to the US. I'll be glad to show you around. Oh yeah, I feel the need to clarify something. For all you guys who hate the "have a nice day" American expression. I find it is meant by us exactly how your "Cheers." Why does it bother some of you so? Take Care:p, Brian |

Think the reason we don't like the expression 'Have a nice day' is the fact that at school, the word 'nice' is only inserted if we cannot think of a better adjective .. would get minus points for using this in our English Literature pieces ... so prefer to say 'lovely, pleasant, etc.' 'Nice' sounds a little common/banal to us .. :D You a 'nice' guy though Brian, come back soon. x |

Re: Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
Glad you enjoyed your trip, as much as we enjoyed meeting you.
The long and rambling chat we had was a treat. We touched on many things, and all of it was interesting, and it made me see some issues differently. Thanks Bro.:) |

Just you remember we let you win, it was fiscal policy, let these upstarts have what they want we'll get the King to write it off as a tax loss.:D As for "have a nice day", that's not a problem, it's when you add, "you all", to the sentence..."have a nice day, you all". WE ARE NOT "YOU ALL". Other than that it was really GOOD, (notice, not nice, to meet you).;) |

I don't believe I ever say you all or worse yet y'all. That's these southern rebels who do that. You Less are quite the character. I still waiting for you to finish "the book" so I can pick it up on E-bay!:D Now what were me strange ways . . . the baccy, the accent, the refusal to drink that glowing goon juice, oh maybe it was the harmonica playing. Heck, I didn't wear me baseball cap and I kept my shirt tucked in! Gotta run. BEA |

You'll do for me then! I shoot baseball cap wearers on sight (unless they are under 10 years old - or a baseball player) and forcibly tuck in the shirts of the sartorially impoverished. Thumb-screws are reserved for those who wear trainers with a suit. :D |
Re: Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
Soooo glad ya enjoyed your visit Brian. It was lovely to meet ya. I loved your harmonica playing and hope you'll bring it or should I say them along with ya when you next pay us a visit.

So glad you enjoyed your visit Brian. It was lovely to meet you - still haven't had chance to catch the neighbours and find out what they thought! :D

Re: Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
If you'd have stopped any longer with me Brian. You would have been in no fit state to meet the rest. It's a mean day out with a seasoned old boozer like your's truly, anyway like iv'e said before there is nothing sounds more insincere as a New York shop assistant asking you to "Have a nice day" you should have used the one I taught you "take care";)

Ianto, (unable to open your PM or wish Entwisi a happy birthday and anniversary), it was nice going to the pub with you. Spreading out the 2 pints made it no worse for wear. I already most always say "take care." But like I said previously, it means the exact same thing, at least over here, as Have a nice day or even Cheers, Cheerio, Shalom, Avetisain (sp?), See ya later, or even my own personal favorite of late Keep (bloody) Smiling! Just trying to help y'all (ewwww) get over this disdain and misunderstanding (IMO) of Americans use of H.A.N.D. ! Peace Out! Brian (of the Glossop/Hadfield Atkin's) |
Re: Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
I once said to a baseball cap wearing singing American
"Tha saunds like sumbody draggin a fender down ossy" He walked away scratching his head and stopped singing. Have a nice day! |

It irritates me when they say 'you guys' - that is incorrect 50% of the time

Re: Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
The term "you guys" is very common in the Northeast U.S. For some reason, guys is meant in a very generic way. A bunch of girls will refer to another bunch of girls as you guys, or better yet from the more Billcat specific area around New Yawk and New Jersey, youse guys.
So yet again here is a "nice";) expression that, when misunderstood or mis-spoken, in another part of the country or world is taken in a different way. I guess it's like "me mates." I always thought of that as meant just for guys. Obviously it's used for either sex. Same is meant by you guys. Have a good day, Brian |
Re: Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
Shouldn't it be Guys & Dolls?:D
|
Re: Thanks for The Memories Accyweb!
My daughter refers to her friends as 'you guys' whether they are male or female.
