I know people who are like that. People I work with are popping pills for every minor complaint imaginable.

Ivan Illich got it right when he spoke of the medicalisation of society.

I dont take pills unless they are absolutely essential. To take a pill for everything means that even so called minor bugs can become resistent. We complain about superbugs but we are aiding and abeting the little beggers.

Sadly it is me, though I hate 'em.

All lined up each morning, all eleven of them, in order, so I don't forget.:(

You need yours were as some people just pop them even though they dont need them. Yours let you live a life as close to normal as possible but others get the sniffles they want antibiotics. The amount of pills that are taken by some is almost like a kid with smarties and panic sets in if they run out.

My mum is like Garinda......never took a pill in her life...until she was diagnosed with hypertension, high cholesterol and diabetes....now her life is governed by pill taking....and goodness how she hates it.

I have to take 3 pills a day for hypertension. I was prescribed statins for high colesterol but I stopped taking them as my ankles swelled terribly and the doctor wanted to give me more tablets to stop the swelling!

Apart from that I take paracetamol if I have a fever (rare) and a daily dose of multivitamins-plus-iron and Omega 3 fish oils which may or may not be doing me good but I like to think they are.

I used to know a woman (a bus conductress) in Accrington who swallowed 3 Bechams Powders every morning, without fail, because she said it stopped her picking up germs. God alone knows what they did to her constitution.

I am very wary of prescription drugs - I have had bad side effects from several of them. I take 6 - 8 paracetemol a day for osteoarthritis pain. If I could find a herbal pain killer I wouldn't take them.

I do take quite a few vitamins and minerals:-
Selenium with vits ACE, vit B complex(with folic acid), vit D, cod liver oil. and gingko biloba (for circulation).

I avoid aspartamine and trans fats - buy mostly organic - never buy ready meals, make my own bread biscuits cakes and yogurt, and drink filtered water. It is wise to know what is going down your throat.
