Who Follows Whom?
Once upon a time soap operas reflected what was happening in real life.
It seems to me that today real life is reflecting what happens in soaps. |
Re: Who Follows Whom?
I don't watch them nowadays - my real life has had more hassle than they show - and when you are 'in the thick of it' you cant do with seeing others problems.

Re: Who Follows Whom?
Personally I think that some people take soaps way too serious and run their lives as they see it on the gogglebox. Events change that fast that I dont think the writers can keep up so generalise it now. Though they do sometimes have to change story lines because what is happening in the real world is too close to what they have written.

Re: Who Follows Whom?
there was an article i read of how people were trying to mimic celeb's by hangin out at their hotspots and spending just as much etc
seems like those that cant copy the celeb lifestyle copy thier charachter lifestyle on soaps |

I don't watch soaps but I do think some youngsters tend to mimic what they see on TV because they think it's like real life.

Coronation Street, the daddy of all soaps, came out of the kitchen sink film school of the late fifties/early sixties. It was as gritty, realistic, and shocking for the time. I've watched Corrie since the age of three, in 1968, and will continue to do so. It's the Dickens of the age. The current storyline about the grubbiness of prostitution, is fascinating. |

Re: Who Follows Whom?
I watch Corrie but I haven't got a daughter who's an escort or one who's in prison for murder. The landlady of my local pub doesn't look like Cruella de Ville, none of my neighbours has ever been given a baby to keep just because its mum said their son was the child's father (Social Services take it a bit more seriously round here) and I don't know any very dishy young factory owners who can't shay the letter esh.
I also listen to the Archers and I am not about to bring up my husband's love-child because its mother has died, my son is married but not to a man, the vicar isn't living with a Hindu solicitor and there are no baby llamas around. I live a dull life, don't I? :D |
Re: Who Follows Whom?
I think soaps are a lot like country and western music. Try watching them backwards ... I know that if you play most country songs backwards, your drinking problem clears up, your wife quits banging your best friend, your dog comes home, and your truck starts. Watch Coronation St. all the way back to Ena Sharples, and global warming just might go away.

Re: Who Follows Whom?
I used to watch Corrie....I gave up.... I think soap operas TRY to mimic real life...but while watchin' you think 'Pft...like that would happen'.... To be honest all the stuff that happens in my area are better than Corrie...
