Paul McCartney qualifies for a bus pass
came across the news today that Paul McCartney turns 65 today (June 18) and it got me to wondering ...........do todays youngsters look at him, like us folks who grew up in the 60s looked at the likes of George Formby and Gracie Fields..........actually George Formby and Gracie Fields were only one generation away music wise from us when we were growing up , McCartney is two generations away from todays young-uns
sorry just a thought    |
Re: Paul McCartney qualifies for a bus pass
I've wondered that too. I used to think the people my Mum liked were ancient doddery old has-beens but they were probably younger then than Paul McCartney is now. :D
My kids have quite an amazing range of musical appreciation but that's probably because they hear a lot of the old stuff rehashed as well as on TV commercials, apart from in my CD collection. |

Re: Paul McCartney qualifies for a bus pass
Slightly off topic, sorry.
On television at the weekend, there was an advert for a music CD called 'Spirit of 1977', full of punk rock anthems, and the tag line was why don't you but it for your Dad for Father's Day? Thirty years ago Dads were punks. What made me think was that thirty years before 1977, they would have been advertising 78's, featuring Vera Lynn, Gracie Fields and Arthur Askey dressed as a busy, busy bee. How times have changed, and so quickly too.:D |
Re: Paul McCartney qualifies for a bus pass
Well I hit 60 today...... (it didn't hit me back)and guess what? it isn't so bad at all.
I don't have a great hang up about my age because I do not feel 60.....I do not act 60.....I do not dress 60......and I am fit and healthy. There are a whole lot of folks out there who were born in 1947...and we are survivors.....we played on the streets(until it went dark).....we built dams on the streams,(sometimes we fell in and got leathered by our mothers for getting wet) we played with real lead soldiers,(and didn't get poisoned) we climbed trees,(and occasional spills were looked upon as 'adventures') fought with swords made of wood (ok maybe we got a few splinters, but they didn't kill us)......we played conkers and to my knowledge no one in my circle had an eye put out,we might have had a bruise or two....but they healed and it taught us to be more careful in future. We didn't have playstations.....we played on the station(when the guard wasn't looking of course)...we didn't have much TV, and became acquainted with Roy Rogers at the pictures (odeon...Saturday morning club...errands all week to get the admission money and an ice cream in the interval)....We ran all the way to school -yes we had the busfare but we spent it on Beech Nut....We were sent to Church and sunday school, but the only time we really went was in time to enrol for the picnic - or ride out on an old fashioned Charabanc. We ate fish and chips out of newspaper...and didn't it taste better? We didn't have holidays, but maybe a day out to Blackpool...and a jug of tea to go with our sandwiches...which were invariably full of sand. We respected our parents and our elders and would give up our seat on a bus without being told/asked. We were poor materially, but rich in experiences...which is what made us the people we are today. If you have been bored whilst reading this then it may mean that you are one of the younger generation......if you can identify just some of the things I have talked about then I hope it has stimulated some of your happy memories too. Also this week I have become an OB(E).....not the medal conferred by the queen....but Old Bag (Extraordinaire - I added that last bit myself)......this honour was conferred upon me by one of the newer members....Thankyou! |

Tony Livesey was talking about that on Radio Lancashire this morning. He'd mentioned to his lad that he would like it but he received "Hits of the 70s" instead with things like 'Chirpy, Chirpy Cheep Cheep'! :D |
Re: Paul McCartney qualifies for a bus pass
Why does hitting an age for a bus pass make some people think that they and others are passed it? Margaret has got the right attitude she hit it that hard poor 60 was out for the count and on its way to A n E. Life its what we make it regardless of age. :D :Banane34::Banane23::Banane08::Banane49::s_aim1:
Sod age and labels and live life to the full because by the time you reach 90 you want to be sure you have made the most of life. 90 is reaching senior citizen status in my eyes not 60 n 65. As for Sir Paul he might as well just by himself a bus or apply for that pass as its his right. |
