Yes I do remember but we had a small portable radio which weighed a ton and the batteries cost a fortune. |

All we had at that time was calor gas and lamp-oil. My stepfather had to pay to have a trench dug across the field from Church Kirk bridge to the farm for the electric cables........this was in 1953. Then we had television and a fridge for the first time. We could milk the cows by machine instead of by hand. Happy days? |

Re: Can you do without TV?
I almost do without it now because I am very selective in my viewing. But I wouldn’t like to do without it altogether. I could manage but I wouldn’t like it ‘cos I would miss the odd programme, like Dr Who, Panorama, Question Time, the wild life documentaries and the like, football when it is on and the rare occasion when an unseen film is put on.
For me 90% of the programmes on all the free view channels are either rubbish or repeats. I remember Relay Radio Ianto.W. In fact I remember it that well because I worked for them before I joined the navy. I rewired much of Accrington and district so that subscribers could have Radio Luxembourg. I suppose that you would call it cable radio today. |

Was that the early days of Rediffusion. I remember there used to be a switch box on the windowsill at my grandparents house which was for both tv and radio. I also remember them having a large building just off Barden Lane in Burnley |

You beat me to the punch there jambutty, yes I had a good idea they had to put an extra wire in for radio Luxembourg, but i'll tell you what we had hours of pleasure from that little box in the corner of the window.:D.
