Look at the state of this!

Re: Look at the state of this!
I noticed it last week. No doubt the council will blame the kids & their skateboards. The same kids that have been down there every night since Broadway was finished. The same kids that would have been seen on CCTV, & should have been moved on. Then they will probably tell us all that there is no money left in the pot to cover the cost of the repair work, because they have already spent it all on employing jobsworths to snoop in our bins.
 |
Re: Look at the state of this!
That's what happens when council work is tendered out instead of them having their own workforce.
PS - skateboards wont do that damage - shoddy materials were used - a decent surface should be able to withstand wear better than that |

Re: Look at the state of this!
My grandson has his own skateboard area and ramp in their garden, built of marine plywood - all his mates use it daily and it is withstanding wear better than that surface. It is the softer wooden end of the skateboards that gets damaged.

Re: Look at the state of this!
Shoddy materials, laid by a shower of cowboys, is my best guess.
The sad thing is, we're all paying for it through our council tax! |
Re: Look at the state of this!
That,s the council for you they take all the fun a way
|
Re: Look at the state of this!
Cheap materials, thin layer.
Should last even with skateboarders abuse. |
Re: Look at the state of this!
isnt that the same patch they redid a couple of month ago?
the whole place is done rubbish! |

Re: Look at the state of this!
A skateboard definatly wouldnt do that damage. Theres never enough pressure applied on a skateboards end like that to create such damage, not in such a long scrape. The aim is to keep the back end OFF the floor afterall or it would just damage their skateboards.
I reckon bikes are a more likely cause than skateboards. BMX types with stunt pegs on the wheels. Either way, I dont think skaters should be moved along off there. I know none of you will look at it this way but I think its alot better for them to play in a very well lit, CCTV area than the skatepark which has dodgy lighting, kids drinking and its just not a nice place to sit once its dark. I would know, my friends used to skate in that park and the moment it'd start getting dark they'd move to broadway because of the lighting and how much safer it is. |
Re: Look at the state of this!
high heels could also do it, but like someone said....shoddy workmanship
|
Re: Look at the state of this!
I wouldn't want to be on that skatepark after dark either but why are they out skateboarding after dark?
To be honest I only object to skateboarders on Broadway when there are a lot of pedestrians and someone is liable to be run into. |
Re: Look at the state of this!
I object to 'em using the benches as ramps ! Plus it's only a matter of time before a board goes thru someone's window.

They aren't criminals you know, they're just bored and want to skate somewhere safe. |

Probably because they havent got anything to do at home or their parents prefer them to be out of the house. |
Re: Look at the state of this!
There are parents who prefer their children to be out in the dark? http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/i...milies/eek.gif

Re: Look at the state of this!
I don't think that Skateboards and Skaters are the real culprits here This is more like the sort of damage done by heavy goods vehicles. Do security vans still use Broadway to get to the entrance of the Arndale? I know that they used to before the renovations. I recall one very near incident with a wandering toddler and a security van not so very long ago.

Re: Look at the state of this!
There aren't supposed to be any deliveries made from Broadway but it still happens;hence the Nationwide attempted theft the other week, though why you would have someone filling cash machine or delivering change at that hour of the day when the place is deserted is beyond me. The Royal mail van uses Broadway twice a day but very little else actually gets that close to the damaged bit of surface. The top layer of gravel has been completely scratched off,it's more like gouges than just wear and tear. It's a bit of a puzzle.

Re: Look at the state of this!
What about those stall things that got set up on broadway? I didnt see how they got brought onto broadway but its very likely they must have used something to at least carry the goods to the stalls aswell? One guy had a big grandfather clock so it wasnt exactly stuff that could just be carried with ease.

Re: Look at the state of this!
why skate on broadway?
isnt that place still there nr omerode street? |

The skate park accomodates drunken teenage girls hanging around chav boys now rather than accomodating skaters. My boyfriend and his friends used to skate on there all the time but now its a site for kids drinking and taking drugs so they go to skateparks such as the one in clitheroe, however the younger skaters who cant drive have to just skate locally. |
Re: Look at the state of this!
The walls round the skatepark seem to be falling to bits. It's beginning to look a total eyesore.
|
Re: Look at the state of this!
Well, no matter what caused them, you would think that a footway surface would have been made of a more robust material.
The thing is why is it c*ap? Was it cost, availability, recycling policy, architects/engineers, preference or shoddy workmanship ? I think the question needs to be asked. |

Speaking of pathways, has anyone seen the nice stone roads in blackburn near ethel austins and the chippery? Lovely :D |
Re: Look at the state of this!
Ooh that just reminded me - I took some photos of that 'building collapse' in Blackburn on Saturday. Now I wonder what I did with them.

Having said that, I do find that what blazey reports as the ex-skateboard area, (now the young druggies area), which used to be the never worked and was a useless fountain area is yet again not fit for the purpose it was half designed not to be. |
Re: Look at the state of this!
Well we've still got the ex-fountain memorial garden complete with cog and now an additional 3 of the ubiquitous black plastic planters. The non-skateboard park is adjacent.
It's not A chippery Less, It's THE Chippery. It's the name of a fish and chip shop/cafe. Where's Ethel Austins though? I can't bring that to mind. |

The skatepark was always rubbish and never safe to sit in on a summer night when it started getting dark. |

Re: Look at the state of this!
Yep, got it. I wonder why Ethel Austin's has never registered with me as being there?
