Council leader votes for 20% pay increase.

According to this weekend's Accrington Observer, HBC voted to award themselves a pay rise of £5,000. An amendment brought in by Labour councillors, opposing the increases, was overturned.

The leader of Hynburn Borough Council, Peter Britcliffe, saw his pay rise by a staggering 20%, because of their decision.

I wonder how many workers in Hyndburn will have to settle for pay rises this year, more in line with inflation, of between 2-3%?

Never mind.

Perhaps Mr Britcliffe will spend his pay increase on toiletries, and each morning as he's pampering himself, will look in the mirror and say,
'Because I'm worth it!'

It must be grand when you can give yourself a pay rise and not have to worry about whether you can afford it.

Wonder what grounds it was overturned on? Looks like there is a bit of a spat going on between our esteemed leader () and the Labour party at the mo;lots about it in the Obby this week. What has he done to justify that kind of payrise? Price of pies gone up again?

That's why we pay our council tax boys and girls so Mr Britcliffe can have a pay hike of 10 times my increase. I really must ask what has he done to deserve any increase at all? Has he increased none taxation revenue by 20%? Has he increased busines in the town? (Actually it looks like the opposite has happened). So what has he done apart from getting his fizzog in the local rag every bl**dy week.

Oh yes sorry, the planters I forgot.

Oh dear, here we go again everybody jumping on the 'Britcliffe' wagon, you should all be ashamed of yourselves, the man goes out of his way unselfishly improving life for the majority whilst taking nothing from the community for himself.

I for one am fed up with this persecution that members of accyweb seem to display towards a man that ought to be considered a Saint ,(would it be possible to make him a Saint?).

Why, Oh why? can I never see anything positive on here about one of our leading citizens?

What do you think Willow? anything that gives the minority the edge over the majority has always been great by me, I'm used to M.P.'S turning into millionaires once they get into office, however inflation seems to be getting out of hand when Councillors, can not only follow suit but also seem able to print their own money!

Of Course I'm not Alright, I wish I'd gone into politics 20 or 30 years ago!
I wouldn't need to mix with the low life that I am doing at the moment, (unless they were bringing me a drink on a Silver platter!).

:D

He has to pay for his new house somehow :D:D

On a serious note, did you know that if the Council wanted to spend an extra £200,000 on something that equates to a 5% Council Tax rise.

And don't forget folks - we still have to fund the name change for our 'and district'

does anyone know what sort of majority these votes need? I'm aware that cons have one more seat than labour but surely something like this can't be passed with just 1 vote? IMHO a minimum of 75% of councillors should approve something that directly affects themselves(at least that way we can rip them all apart :D )
