M6 closed due to fire
Just heard on the radio that there is a massive fire at a chemical waste plant near Preston and the M6 is closed between junctions 31a and 32.
Police are syphoning people off the motorway and have advised locals to stay indoors. The reporter said that flames were shooting hundreds of feet into the air and barrels of chemicals were exploding. A school in the area is closed for today and motorists are being advised to stay away. |

Thanks for the tip! I've got to get to Poulton-Le-Fylde this morning, I will have to go through Ribchester now. Thanks again you have saved me sitting in traffic all morning!

Re: M6 closed due to fire
I do hope it's just a freak accident and has no connection with things like those car bombs but you can't help wondering can you? Maybe I'm just getting very cynical in my old age.
Glad to have helped you avoid getting stuck c(''')m. How do I pronounce that? |
Re: M6 closed due to fire

Re: M6 closed due to fire
mez i go down the m6 then the m fiftysummat
or end of m65 follow duel arriageways/bypass mostly signposted blackpool i think... then foolow the signs for euxton chorley which will then have signs to southport.. this is by far the most enjoyabe and scenic route.. better than through preston. |

Re: M6 closed due to fire
why not.. its in the opposite direction to the fire... your thinking to blackpool ..
|
Re: M6 closed due to fire
The chap on the radio may have been overdramatising then but he gave the impression that huge areas were a no go zone, like you couldn't get onto the M Fiftysummat from the M6 :) I haven't listened to it since I got up so it may have improved since then.

Re: M6 closed due to fire
willow the fire is towards preston and UP the M6 . To get to southport by moterway you go DOWN the M6 and its a different 50 summat that your talking about.. TRUST ME! :)

Re: M6 closed due to fire
To go that way, your right Kipax, off the M65 (J1) onto the M6 southbound (M6 Junction 29) J31 & 32 are closed. Then keep going and then its the M58 (quietest motorway i've ever been on!!) when that ends theres 2 ways to go, to Liverpool (you're in Aintree) or Southport just follow the signs Mez!:D

Re: M6 closed due to fire
cheers willow, thats me with a change of plan.lol;)
|
Re: M6 closed due to fire
M6 now open again :) Just been on granada reports new..
|
Re: M6 closed due to fire
Just taken me 3 and quarter hours to get to work in Preston Centre.
Kipax was right that it Southport is the opposite direction BUT trying to get to the end of the M65 to go southbound on the M6 was a nightmare earlier because the traffic was backed up on the M65 for miles. So'd law when I get near journey's end they open the motorway  |
