How Long Have Trains Been No-Smoking ?

Years as far as I can remember, seems it hasn't got through to some people ??

Former Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy has been "spoken to" by police for smoking on a train.

Police said a man was advised of the no smoking policy on the 1105 BST Paddington to Plymouth train earlier.
They were told he was smoking on board and "refusing to stop", thinking it was fine to smoke out of the window.
Mr Kennedy, who was ousted as Lib Dem leader in January 2006 after admitting to a drink problem, has long tried to quit smoking. The train manager on the First Great Western train called the British Transport Police after Mr Kennedy was discovered smoking on board, the BBC understands.

I think it was 2002 when all trains became no smoking.

Looks like old Charlie has hit the bottle again, if he can't remember that.

Longer than buses there has been a ban on trains. Mind you some of the station stops are long enough for a fag anyway.

He probably didn't think he was IN the train if he stuck his head out the window. Same sort of mentality as our cat that. He thinks if he sticks his head under a cushion nobody can see where he is.

There are signs all over the doors, warning you not to stick your head out...just under the no smoking signs.

I've just come back from Holland and you could smoke in restaurants there, but you couldn't smoke on trains. On the stations they had "Rokken" areas but you could only smoke there, strange to say you could smoke in a restaurant and even in McDonalds, Burger King etc....

Can you believe this?My friend went out last night and got a taxi home.In the taxi the driver was complaining about how quiet business had been for the past week.My friend said that it's probably due to the smoking ban, perhaps people aren't going out as much. The taxi driver said, in all seriousness, 'is the ban just for this week?' How much publicity has this ban had?it just beggars belief that there's someone in Accy, driving a taxi, who thinks they've just banned smoking in public places for this week!:confused:What's he on?
