tattoo's

what are you views on tattoo's?
do you agree with them or not?
if you have one what have you got and where is it?

Mick 01-02-2004 17:43

i got 1 when i was 18 in Preston it says ANNE in a heart but we have now been married 31 years the place was could mick fizz
would NOT recommend then though
some look really good but they cost

ellie 01-02-2004 17:57

i have a small heart with georgia (my daughter) on my hip.

Ernie 01-02-2004 18:39

I think tattoos are fine if they are good ones, not those scratchy ones done with indian ink and a needle, I have four, 2 butterflies a flower and an eagle on both forearms, personally I would not have my hands tattooed but that is my choice as a lot of people do have their hands done. Tattoes are a personal choice that need a lot of thought before making the decision to go ahead.

Bluesmaster 01-02-2004 20:05

Tatt's are great but it's easy to go overboard......ive had a few over the years but like Ernie i would agree that there's nowt looks worse than the love and hate and all the other garbage that you see on some folk....it's just my opinion.

Be warned.......i have had 8 tatt's done, all when i was in my youth....the last one landed me in Rossendale General with a dose of HepB!....was kept isolated and in bed for 3 weeks, all in all it put me out of action for a few months.

The tattoo studio should be spotless, a clean needle for every punter should not be an issue....

My first tatt i had done at Dave Heaps at Bury, cost £4.50 .....my last was at a place that i will not name but it was just of the Promenade at Blackpool, he did a great job for £80.00 but was it worth all the agg that came with it? I dont think so.

B.

ellie 01-02-2004 20:12

i had mine done a few months ago at tattoo in accy he did a good job and the pain wernt to bad.
i went the other day to get another but apparently he has closed. does anyone know if hes moved somewhere else?

Bluesmaster 01-02-2004 20:20

There's a new tattoo studio opened on blackburn road, next to the new Larger Monkey shop that used to be cellar5, dont know if its the same guy tho.

B.

Mick 01-02-2004 21:02

yep think its the same one

Mick 01-02-2004 21:03

By the way wife has a red rose on her thigh looks great

littlemo 02-02-2004 00:47

I don't mind little ones in discrete places. I think over the last 10 years we've all gone tattoo crazy, specially us females, I often wonder what will happen in 50 years time when all these people are a lot older and more wrinkly!

ellie 02-02-2004 07:18

i dont agree with huge tattoos all over but thats my opinion.
i agree with littlemo small ones in discrete place are ok
a lot of people do go overboard

Mik Dickinson 02-02-2004 08:38

No thanks if you were meant to have pictures on your body you would be born with them

janet 02-02-2004 10:32

I personally have never felt the need or want of a tattoo, but have nothing against folk who do have them. It's all down to personal choice.

Tealeaf 02-02-2004 10:32

Mind you, a tattoo ain't as bad as a 4" bolt rammed through yer nostrils and a 2" one through yer highbrow, complete with a dozen safety pins sticking through your left ear lob.

janet 02-02-2004 10:35

I felt enough pain when having my ears pierced, could'nt have anything else done. Too soft.

ellie 02-02-2004 10:39

i had my belly button pierced that didnt hurt half as much as my ears.
i dont know how people can have all these piercings especially thier tongue imagine the infections yuck

Tealeaf 02-02-2004 10:40

I've no tattoos, thank god. I don't like the idea of a permanent piccy drawn on me...maybe there's a market for developing these "stick-on's"....they seem much more sensible...a piccy of a hanging monkey one week, a rampant stallion the next....

WINGY 02-02-2004 10:50

I used to have my nipple pierced but that was allways infected, so it got thrown away

Tealeaf 02-02-2004 11:06

An ex-girlfriend of mine had an ex-boyfriend with a 3" bolt stuck through the end of his you-know-what...........she did'nt stay my girlfriend for long...god knows where she'd been.

lettie 02-02-2004 15:14

Tatts are a personal choice, and personally not for me. Seen loads of nice discreet ones but also loads of horrors. My sister has a small rose on her scapula, which she was too afraid to tell my dad about, despite the fact that she was in her 20's when she had it done. I have a piercing (belly button) which I had done by the tattooist at the bottom of Whalley Rd, had it done when I was 30 while he could still find my belly button, before it disappears into mounds of flab. Never had a problem with it and it hasn't disappeared into the flab yet.

Mik Dickinson 02-02-2004 21:05

The only holes and piccies on my body are all natural.Do not mind anybody else doing what they want. Its their body.

got my lip pierced, but no tattoos.i had the side of my lip done b4 n had to take it out due to a complaint from someone at work (personal choice though) and it doesnt show now.whereas i wont have a tattoo cos if i get bored of it you cant just 'get rid' so easy.
now got the centre pierced by a different studio in acc but i wouldnt go there again.and it was more expensive:(

ellie 05-02-2004 15:20

ive just had anoyher tattoo done (sorry wingy) went to sstudio one on warner street
really good
had a butterfly on the botton of my back in pain now for a while though

Tealeaf 05-02-2004 15:22

What sort of Butterfly?

ellie 05-02-2004 20:00

just a plane black out line of a butterfly very simple. it will look nice when the swelling has gone down

Mik Dickinson 05-02-2004 21:08

pussy cat be careful of going in to detail as it is Tealeaf you are conversing with.LOL!

Well I have 2 tattoos..... one on my upper arm and one on my leg..... gotta admit neither really hurt that much though the leg one did bleed quite a bit...... I think the odd one can be ok, but not keen on the ones that cover practically half ur body, but that I guess is a personal choice

Re: tattoo's

When I was too young to have a tattoo I always thought I would get one as soon as was old enough - truth is - it's such a big decision choosing something that you have to live with all your life that I haven't bothered.

I also like the small discreet ones rather than large ones. And I'm not too fond of any piercings near the mouth.

I think that there are too many kid's role models with alot of tattoos - especially nowadays when you can get temporary ones.

Although these days tattoos are for decorative purposes about 100 years ago for sailors they had a practical purpose.
They would put a Tattoo of a pig on one foot and a tattoo of a rooster on the other, this they believed would protect them from drowning!

Of course a better way to prevent drowning would be to learn to swim, I guess...

I don't really go for tattoos either, but as others have said, it's personal choice.

I thought about having an ear pierced awhile ago, then possibly my eyebrow, but never got round to making a decision, so never bothered.

I have never worked out why people have their tongue pierced though...

I must admit I find tattoos on a man quite sexy if they are done well. The old ones were good the skulls dragons e.t.c I used to like looking at my name on my Dads arm. But nowadays people seem to go over the top having them on knuckles & necks. I personally would not have one as I just don't see the point and can find better use for my money.

cashman 07-06-2005 09:49

Re: tattoo's

had some for 40 years, never regretted them exept the ones on my hands, bear this in mind anyone thinking of being tattooed,on your hands doesnt matter how expensive the clothes you wear. you NEVER look dressed up. so i would say on HANDS should be a no-no.

All I hope is that these young girls who are having butterflys engraved on their pert little buttocks are busy putting money away in their piggy bank to have the said same removed from what will be a bulbous mass of quivering lard in some 30 or 40 years time.
Otherwise, it will be us men who once again will be forking out money to fund the NHS in order to reverse this childish female caper.

Re: tattoo's

I personally don't like tattoos, I think they have connotations which may lead to regrets in later life. If you want one, have a tiny one where only your nearest and dearest (although some people have a lot of nearests and dearests!) will see it. Very much agree with Cashman - hands are a complete no-no. I find the facial piercings fairly repulsive as well - I've never understood why a girl will pay a fortune for a lotion to close her pores, then have a dirty great hole put in her nose. (I have got pierced ears, though - it's an excuse for more jewellery!) I don't think tattoo removal should be paid for by the NHS - it was your choice, live with it.

Love tattoos on men, they are sooo sexy I do confess to having a bit of a tattoo fetish :o but I don't like them when there's too many or when they are too big. They can also look nice on women but I'm to soft to have one myself.

I have my belly pierced and the chap that did it said I was the most nervous person he had ever pierced (I didn't feel a thing so the nerves were for nothing) and I have my ears pierced twice but couldn't have any more because a friend had a third set put in her ears when I had my second and she said it hurt like hell!!

harwood red 07-06-2005 22:49

Re: tattoo's

I have a small tattoo of a celtic knot on my backside which I had done as was mentioned earlier for nearest and dearest only and no I don't have loads of those. Thinking about it though if everything goes south as I get older then maybe I'll end up with what may resemble a rope ladder!!!!!!!!

Re: tattoo's

You remind me, Margaret, of when I took my friend Ellida to have her ears pierced. We went to Debenhams, where we were greeted by a white-coated posh-sounding bird, who asked what Madam wanted. I said "Madam wants her ears pierced". Ellida is faintly green at this point and struck dumb. White-coated bird then says "She don't look to me like she wants her ears pierced! Do yer?" Ellida nodded dumbly, kept her eyes firmly closed throughout, and nearly broke every bone in my hand with her death grip! - but she got her ears pierced.

had my ear pierced one very drunken afternoon in the woodnook inn- with a nappy pin (heated of coarse with me lighter) and a beer cork behind the ear, that was in 1967-never regretted that one, just seemed cheaper than a proffesional job, happy days lol

You're lucky it didn't get infected.

But then people did a lot of things back then that wouldn't be allowed today due to things like health and safety issues, and the increasing 'sue' culture

Re: tattoo's

Oh, Pendy......I had mine done at Val-hal way back in 1977........my hubby said that if I passed my finals he would buy me something nice.........and he did! He bought me a beautiful pair of earrings shaped like heavy knots.......one problem.... they were for pierced ears......my ears only had the holes that I came into the world with.

I must have gone to the shop about half a dozen times before I could screw up enough courage to go in.
When I got inside I asked if I could have my ears numbed for the process.......the guy said 'No...... it doesn't hurt'.
I sat down and said ' I didn't know what was worse, having my ears pierced or having a baby'.........he said 'well......tell me which you want and I'll alter the chair'.........CHEEK, and what's more.......it did hurt!

I dont mind tattoo's or piercings, i have both i have a panther on my back, my ears are pierced and my tounge is pierced, I like tounge piercings eventualy i got the courage up to have mine done when i went i thought they would numb it but he didnt he put a dot on my tounge where it was going and i had to sit with my tounge hanging out so that it would dry up and then he could get a grip of it with them clamp scissors thingies, an then got the needle and just pushed it through (he said it was just like peircing butter!!!) it hurt a little but not as much as you think it will. Then he put a long bar through it and that was that then the funny bit i couldnt talk properly or eat properly for about a week.

But all has been well since i had it done a year ago.

My Mum hates it she didnt want me to get it done but at 27 years old and children of my own she couldnt do much.

Sorry MUM XX

To all those talking about the tattoo shop above lagermonkeys.
Yes it is the same guy (I think he is called mick) who used to be on whalley rd (ex marys music shop) but the shop at lagermonkeys has closed down and I believe he has moved to Warner St. My ex sister in law used to work with him at largermonkeys so I will try to find more details for you all.

p.s. I dont have any tats or piercings. I dont believe in them but its up to the individual.

Here's a comforting thought for you margeret while your waiting for your letter,

Did you know it was a dentist that invented the electric chair? (talk about painless extraction!).

I had a tattoo done many moons ago by my ex-hubbys mate who was a tatooist at the time. Its on the top of my thigh and is a puppy running. The colour is all faded now.

That tatooist shop that was next to Clark's motorcycle shop tattoed my eldest son and he was only 13 at the time. They believed him when they said he was 18. I dont know what i was most mad at, my son or the cheap and crap badly done tattoo. You should have seen their faces when i frog-marched my son back to the shop with his birth certificate ! They closed down shortly after.

I waited until I was 40 to have one done. I only had a relatively small butterfly design on my ankle which will spend most of the time hidden as I wear trousers a lot. Daft thing was, I was still nervous about telling my Dad about it. I had to tell him though as we've just been on holiday with him and my Mum and they would have thought it a bit strange if I'd worn my jeans to the beach every day.
