so simple but what fun

Well as family time goes I have had probably one of the most enjoyable evenings in a long time...

Life has become so hectic of late and having two teenage sons doesn't help  so I asked them if they fancied a family evening...which to my suprise they both said yes... so ...

we had a chinese takeaway (all our fave)
watched a DVD - "The Longest Yard" (which we howled with laughter at)
then wait for it............... played a board game with TV switched off!!!!

And it was great fun and yet such a simple evening..

what would you class as a great family evening??

I love those sort of evenings. :) Sometimes we play daft games like charades or have cookery sessions or do crafty things. We have a family evening once a week and the next one planned is to do stage two of some shield plaque things we are making with 'coat of arms' to depict ourselves. Bit mad, bit messy but lots of fun.

Just curious to know what was going on before and present situation; school hols ? no homework, etc., or exams finished ? .. but what was going on as the norm before this takeaway, dvd and then game(not exactly simple) All relative so to speak.

Sounds like you had a great evening.:)

A good night to me would be Trivial Pursuits followed by a mega game of Scrabble. I used to love playing board games with my brother and my late Dad. Mum never played, just watched and adjudicated if we disagreed too much.:D

Both lads have had exams of recent, the eldest has taken some of his GCSE's a year early so was revising a lot of the time and when he wasn't he was partying!!! to chill out

youngest (by only 17 months) is hardly ever at home but has had a lot of extra school curricular (including recent school trip to paris and being in quite a few school sports teams)

As for me, work has been manic, hectic social life and when at home either too shattered or catching up with housey things (you know the boring stuff)

Also they both are going away with my parents for a week next sunday and then they will be no doubt enjoying the summer hols with their mates before we fly off to sunny turkey for two weeks at end of aug... hence the rare occurance of a family night!!

Ok ..wasn't meant to be offensive at all HR .. obviously you are giving them a good life anyway .. have been there, done all that believe me .. your family night sounds good and relaxing now against this. Like I said all relative and if they had been watching telly everynight, playing on playstations, then would have been open to criticism .. hope you understand what I was trying to say.

wasn't offended at all kate... to be honest I think the playstation hardly gets played at the mo...usually it's the computer that we argue over who's turn it is to go on...especially since the eldest's lap top has gone belly up and he has had so much course work to do aswell
