The sooner the licence fee is scrapped, the better.

No more using our money to spend on public art/corporate entertaining/taxis to the hairdressers for Kirsty Wark...and no more bloody money for Jonathon Ross and Graham Norton!

I agree that more care should be taken on spending our fees but am glad of the BBC -if only for the fact that I dont get a sore thumb from pressing the mute button during ads (most of which are horrendous and overloud)

Why not, " it is not the 'done' thing old boy, why soil our hands with 'blood' money when the 'peasants' are stupid enough to pay":(.

We get ads now on the BBC, for their own programmes.

On average five minutes per hour of broadcasting.

Shame they really have u by the goolies cos without a tv licence u cant own a tv [technically] by law, so u cant even bypass the darn BBC - like they own tv's or something !! Personally i think they are rubbish in standard than ITV/CH4 etc for programmes & innovation in ideas & drama's, only time i watch the beeb is for occasional footy [if on] & eastenders.

Thats when i stop paying for a tv licence. Because i wont be receiving it. I dont get channel 5 because of where i live. I refuse to pay for sky just for the sake of getting bbc1 etc. Freeview boxes dont work here because we are out of line of the signal.

I record most programs on Sky +Margaret, then you just fast forward during the ads, its surprising 1hr. programs only run 45mins on my telly.

I have an ordinary Sky box and dish but dont pay for any (extra)programmes. My Tv has built in freeview. I need the freeview back up because when it rains heavily my Sky reception goes kaput.
I paid for my own dish to be erected when I moved here but was limited as to where I can put it (flats), and the ordinary ariel is communal and gives a very poor signal strength. I tried an arial booster but it didnt improve matters. I used to pay extra for Sky channels at my previous address but I wont do that here because the Sky signal is unreliable.
I could link up to cable but dont want any extra expense - I am content with the channels I get - perhaps miss the Discovery channel a bit -but not worth the extra I would have to pay to get it.
I rarely miss a programme I want to see because I live alone - I gave away my video recorder. So I put up with the ads with the help of the mute.

I truly hope we never lose the BBC. Commercial stations do not produce the variety and quality of programmes that the BBC do.

I have Sky, but only watch the football. I never watch ITV or any of its variants as it is rubbish.
When C4 was regulated in terms of the programmes it produced, it really was a breath of fresh air. Since the late-90s the quality of its programmes has dropped like a stone. I hardly ever watch C4 now.

I feel there are alot of short-sighted people when it comes to this topic.

Sky + is free if you subscibe to certain other channels (don't know details as I have full service) Margart. I think Sky going of when it rains hard applies to every body, I know it does to me as I usully goes of in the middle of a good film or a footy match, especially in the last few weeks, but you just have to grin and get on with it

As of this month (or maybe last month) Sky have waived the monthly fee for Sky+, regardless of the package you are on. They used to charge £10 unless you subscribed to a premium package (Sports, Movies), but that has gone now.

I never used to have a problem with losing the Sky signal, but the last few weeks it's got worse. I lost the signal for about 20 minutes last night, during that thunder storm.

I think the only short-sighted people are the BBC.

Why they think they should spend money aping the successful shows from independent television is beyond me.

Fame Accademy.

Innumerous ballroom/disco/street/group dancing competitions.

Search for Joseph/Maria, not forgetting next years search for the star for Funny Girl, Looking for Fanny.

The list of programmes they copy from ITV is endless, and poaching Graham Norton from Channel 4, for 13 million pounds, when they should be nurturing new talent, is scandalous.

Most English people won't be aware that BBC Scotland spent 39 million pounds on building a set for River City, sort of a tartan clad Eastenders, and it only attracts viewing figures of about 500,000, which the majority of the country are lucky they are unable to watch.

Actually I don't mind paying the license fee. It means we do get good quality dramas, very good kids programmes, and a wide variety of inovative programming be it on radio, tv or the internet.

I have to ask who here doesn't check the BBC site? Considering that we pay the same for programmes it is pretty good value for free.

Re: BBC TV Licence

Radio has a much better quality of news announcers who dont say 'Errgh' every few words. I think that the need to look pretty on TV has lowered the standard of news presenters a lot. I have switched them off at times because their diction is often irritating
