I Spy With My Little Eye

The police in London are seeking permission (or may already have it) to connect to the congestion charge CCTV’s in real time 24/7. The reason – anti terrorist tracking.

No doubt the police in other cities and major towns will seek a similar dispensation in due course.

The Orwellian society draws ever near.

It had to happen sooner or later but will it be focused on the ones that might be ready to cause havoc or all that mean all will be considered terrorists? Give it 5 years and every move made in a major city airport port etc will have a record of what you are doing down to how long your toilet visit was. Perish the thought that they will put cameras there.

It doesn't worry me. I won't be doing anything that I don't want anybody to know about.

CCTV is used in criminal investigations already, trafic cameras being used is no great step forward, infact they are used when traacking vehicles. All this is, is a request to be able to use them without having to go to court first (where it would undoubtedly be allowed) so speeding up possible following of suspect vehicles.

Ergo, no problem.

I don't know what all the paranoia's about regarding Big Brother.

If you ain't done anything wrong, you've nothing to fear. Seems simple enough to me.

That’s the lame excuse that people trot out with startling regularity.

Tell that to all those people who have been wrongly convicted. They had done nothing wrong so had nothing to fear but they still ended up in jail – for years in some cases.

I'm all for the defence of real civil liberties, but personally I have no fear of high tech systems being used to monitor all and sundry, if it helps protect the civil liberties of a democratic society, and in anyway help in the fight against terrorism.

Paranoia about an Orwellian nightmare I'll leave to those people who probably already have a bunker prepared for Armageddon, and a pantry full of tinned stuff.

i dont mind if it helps crime of any sort detection. too much thought about civil liberties, not enough thought about civil liberties of the innocent victims.

I seem to remember quite a few wrongful convictions occured before your Orwellian nightmare, and the introduction of CCTV, began... many of whom were hanged.

If Britain having the most saturated CCTV coverage per square mile in the world, helps bring one criminal vandal to justice (of sorts)...good!
