Does'nt come across as funny.
People who know you will probably interpret the joke as such, people who don't know you would probably think 'Who is this guy?' and who are the 'Loonies'

To me, there are much more important things happening in the world, than if some literally witless person, doesn't have the wit to understand what passes for humour.:)

I'll tell you what I've noticed shall I?

I've noticed that a once happy forum which was like one big family - oh yes we had our little tiffs and disagreements but we always kissed and made up - has been recently disrupted by the arrival of one or two people who seem hell-bent on turning everything as nasty as possible and then beggaring off.

When the novelty has worn off for them, those of us who enjoy AccyWeb for what it is - a fun and informative place to air and share our feelings, opinions, questions about all manner of things connected or not connected to the borough in which we dwell (or don't dwell as the case may be) will still be here. (apart from me when I'm in a field)

Margaret, whether it's me or anyone else past or present are referred to as 'Loonies' and to be called witless personally deserves a serious reply.
The aside from Willow dubbing me 'Grumpy' is also a bit rich.
Hopefully I am on this forum to stay and may get used to the 'Sarky' and 'Funny' comments by our fellow members but I think that I too am entitled to an opinion without being shouted down.

All of us have 'grumpy days' at times - just some seem to have them more often than most. You have been here a while now and some of your threads have been interesting and informative.
I have noticed that you do tend to target Garinda with criticism more than others, this is beginning to look like a vendetta - so in the interests of 'a happy forum' - please ease off.

Right, let me explain my post, though as always jokes that need a long winded explanation are invariably not funny.

Button's Mum said that Accy Web goes in phases, in reply to one member's question as to why he thought the forum was quiet. I agree with this point. Sometimes the forum is quieter for whatever reasons, be it holidays, or that there might not be any threads that inspire people to post. I've been a member for two and a half years, and this is what I've found to be true.

It was a strange thing to ask, particularly yesterday I thought, as there was an interesting thread about passports, which saw the return of AccyMel and Slinky, after not posting much for a while, even our M.P. Greg Pope popped on to post in the thread.

My jibe about people posting being connected to the lunar calendar was a joke. Although it's been proved that the moon's cycle can affect mood, I don't really accept the idea that it changes people into mouth foaming lunatics.

I cheekily used that post to welcome back Slinky. If anyone deserved to be offended, that I was by association calling her a lunatic, it was her. As someone who has a sense of humour, I know she wouldn't be hurt by the joke.

For some people to be so paranoid that they think every post is aimed at them, is quite sad and delusional. For one thing the person who has taken offence has been posting recently, therefore my lunatic comment wasn't aimed at them, but the missing members.

I guess I'm just well asnd truly blessed, unlike others, that God gave me a sense of humour.

Praise be...as Thora Hird would have said.:)

Re: have you noticed

:) - see that, it's a smile. It means I'm being pleasant so please take this in the way I am writing it Royboy.

When I posted the interesting thread about the relative sizes of planets you assumed it was meant as criticism of you when you were about as far from my mind as it's possible to get at the time.

When Rindy posted about loonies I took it as referring to us AccyWebbers en masse, in general, because we often refer to ourselves as that (as in when we sometimes welcome newbies to the 'loonie bin'). We laugh at ourselves, and why not - somebody has to. It didn't strike me as being an insult to anyone at all.

Please do try to give people the benefit of the doubt. Most of the time they deserve it. Yes I did say you were grumpy but that was only because you were, at that point, being somewhat grumpy. When someone is grumpy others often react back in a grumpy manner and mountains are created where not even molehills had previously existed.

If you stop looking for personal insults in everything anyone else says then other people will probably stop being ratty with you and you'll realise that we all human after all (well, apart from Garinda with that avatar - not sure what he is at the moment, and Less is a vampire but we don't talk about that much)

Whenever I see the term "loony" on here, I immediately think of the Monty Python skits when they used it. Quite tame when used on Accyweb (IMO).

Royboy, stick with it. You'll eventually see and get used to (Though no need to agree or accept), the many various folks that make up the Accy family.

Cheers All!

Yeah, but I do trust you (and now the Spugster) shall be prepared for the "warm American welcome" that I'll be giving you on my return! (Just have to think of something that will out do yours)

Aye, and upon first dealing with a few of the Accy family, I equalled them to evil Step-Brothers. However, after ~6 months getting used to the banter, now see many of them as good friends.

To tell ya the truth, I rather enjoy a good verbal joust between Accywebbers. What a witty group here. Late at night after some imbibing is best. Boy could Mancie, Chav and Rindy go at it! And remember how the old grumpster, Hatter, and others could stir up a hornets nest on here?

A "loonie" is a Canadian one dollar coin, so called because the original one had an image of a loon on the reverse. First issued in 1987, the coin is now worth almost one US dollar. I sincerely hope that this is too much information, and certainly not what you were looking for.:D:D:D

A loon is a water bird, and it has a distinctive, mournful call. When you are out in the wilderness (no, not Ossy) camping you can hear them calling, esp. around sunset and in the early evening. A true Canadian icon, like the beaver, the polar bear, and the rabid skunk (not the rabid skank, like Paris Hilton, which appears to be a US phenomenon):D

Going quite fine my way Ian. Great harvests of tomatoes, cabbage, eggplant, squashes, corn, peppers, cucumbers, kale, swiss chard, garlic, beans, carrots, beets, grapes, blueberries, and blackberries.

Poor year for fruit trees, turnips, peas, nut trees, due to drought and very hot weather!
