Credit card only

I was heading back from Manchester yesterday and the red light came on in the car - I was running out of petrol. I reckoned I had enough petrol to get the the Asda petrol station at Pilsworth.

I drove in to discover that it was credit card only and that there was no way that I could pay cash. As I'd come out with a £20 in my pocket and nothing else this was a bit of a problem.

I had to leave and try my luck to the next junction - fortunately made it.

I think it's going a bit far with streamlining things when they don't have attendants at places like this - whatever happened to personal service?

Those wishing for personal service please form an orderly queue anywhere off the premises and our helpful staff will promptly ignore you!

Oh dear.I know a lot of places won't take a cheque now but this is the first time I've heard of somewhere that only accepts credit cards,no cash:(.Not everybody has a credit card do they? I wonder if they'd accept a debit card:confused:.Still,I hope this isn't the way things are going.

Thats very true ..... I don't and won't have credit cards!!! sometimes I seriously think this country wants EVERYONE in debt to these credit card companies:(

I'm not sure about debit cards - think it probably accepted them as well. It was basically four petrol pumps with credit card slots in them.

Suggestion to Asda - if you're going to do that why not have a kiosk in the shop which you can go to and buy £20 or £10 cards, which you can then go to the pumps with.

I use credit cards for financial gain - have a cashback card which gives me a .5%back, and another which gives me free delivery on groceries + grocery vouchers at the rate of .5%.
Playing the system like I do only works if you clear the whole balance every month without fail

hi gayle, we have alot of unmanned petrol stations up here, they do accept both debit and credit cards into the pumping station and if you have a look at the petrol/diesel prices they are cheaper compaired to manned stations,it seems to be growing in the north east for these kind of petrol stations
