I have only just noticed whilst coming down Rhyddings Street this evening that Ossy Conservative Club is not called that any more.There is now a new sign proclaiming it to be Oswaldtwistle Social Club.Anybody know why have they changed the name of the place and when this happpened:confused:

Only a guess but I would suggest that the Tories aren't drinking enough so they're trying to get the rest of us in there under the guise of it being a social club. :)

Perhaps there are more sociable people than Conservatives in Oswaldtwistle now.:D

first was Accrington con, then Church con, now Ossy con, Tories must be a dying breed around here.:D

They are probably bankrupt , not just financially but of ideas as their parliamentry counterparts have been for a number of years. What I personally cannot understand is why they are still the ruling party in 'Hyndburn' when their power base Ossy, can not support a Tory Club.
It may be another case of 'underfunding' like the lesure shower that have just decided to 'jump ship'.Well as they say Peter "When the going gets tough, the tough get going".:D:

I heard that it was now a private members club and guess who's name was thrown into the mix? His initials have been bandied around on here just lately, don't know whether what I heard was true, but would not be surprised!:(

It,s been purchased by several local "business people" It,s been done up and, as far as I know, has no political affiliation. I know a couple of the owners and all I can say is good luck, whenever we,re over that,s our Saturday night out.

My mate goes in Ossy con and it hasn't been taken over by anyone, its still a member of the association of con clubs and is still affiliated, I dont go in clubs myself I'm more of a pub man but will keep you informed if my mate updates me when next time I see him.

Was in there the other week ( not thru choice- family funeral ) and they had plans of the new signage on display in there. Don't think there has been any change of ownership just a "re branding " as the marketing buffoons call it.

You are right. Several local people put some money into the pot to take over the club. The club was in need of funds for repairs (if I remember correctly). It was explained to me by one of the old committee members. All this happened months ago so I can't remember the full story now. I bet mthead knows, he visits the place often.
