Translators to be left in Iraq.
 

Well it seems the Government has strengthened its stance on asylum seekers at long last;unfortunately the latest rejectees are people who have aided the British forces in Iraq.These people served as translators with our forces but have been refused permission to enter the UK.
What a topsy turvy world we live in let in the feckless,the work shy ,the criminal but not our allies who will now face death.

Heard my usual limited time at dinner to listen to Jeremy Vine who was discussing this subject.

Kept doing lots of U-turns on this issue as every difference of opinion was put forward. Felt at first,yes, we let the Gurkhas down, the Cossacks, Vietnamese (ok USA did) and let's, at least, protect these people who have aided us, after all lots of political asylum seekers here whose cases have been suspect. Then the point came up about all the other locals who were cleaners, drivers, cooks and bottle washers (plus their family) to our armed forces .. this could then leave us vulnerable to hundreds of thousands. They were paid well and knew the risks. Hek though, sounded like torture and death to the interpreters was inevitable after we leave (which we will after total failure)

Really confused on this one, and William Haigh was correct in saying that each one should be taken on its merit, otherwise could open the flood gates to lots more asylum seekers.. oh hek ! really don't know .. help !:(

interesting question , I wonder how many of the Brits who lived on Jersey and Guernsey during WW2 were evacuated to Germany after 1945 ?

Weren't they directed on how to apply for asylum in UK? I'm not trying to justify just leaving them there of course but if you just let in people who work in some way for the country then doesnt that just defeat the whole object of claiming asylum in the first place?
There are a lot of polish people working in the country but they've obviously had to claim some form of asylum first, yet people are always complaining still that foreigners are getting all the jobs., so the government cant really win.

Why dont we trade some dole dossers for them, that would keep most people happy.

Hmmmmmmm was going to say bring them over but when I read Kate's post had to do a re-think.

Yes it's not nice them being left there to face ??? but then again why not send back the "suspect types" and then they can fill those places (win-win I think)

Gurkha's were and are still being treated badly lets hope that is soon sorted.

Unless they are British Citizens, which they clearly aren't, why should they be brought back to England? Just because they worked as translators for the forces doesnt give them some sort of grounds to come live here, it'd be ludicrous if they were granted rights to live here without applying first.

I'm sure they understood the risks of being translators in a country at war, therefore they accepted that risk. There are enough British people to worry about in regards to safety without worrying about every other countries citizens aswell.

Blazeys got a point, but the question too me is WHY are these people not allowed acess, yet criminals and scum are in many cases.:confused:
