Very sad to die so young. He really helped shape the cultural and musical scene in the northwest, especially in Manchester.

Incidentally his partner Yvette Livesey, a former Miss Great Britain, is from Oswaldtwistle.

Sad news..always ready to support new local bands and was quite an innovator
(I posted a thread about this an hour ago but it says has to be approved by the mods.. is this a new rule on Accyweb??)

I remember him being Bob Greaves' understudy on Granada Reports in the early seventies. Then he was just 'Tony' Wilson.

In the 80's/90's he came across as arrogant, self opinionated and a bit of a know it all..but...

He knew his stuff..like Mohammed Ali, John McEnroe etc.. if you can do it....aint nothing wrong in gobbing off about it...

Northwest music has lost a fighter today.

He did come across as arrogant when on TV, but he was always prepared to put his money were his gob was!
He was just a local Manchester lad I've seen in many times in the 70/80's in the Stretford End at Old Trafford.. dressed scruffy in a very old jacket and wearing a raggy old United scarf.. good lad!

Only really seen him on granada reports as a presenter many yrs ago.. then pops up on talk shows.. didnt take too much notice of him... however a lot of good stuff and good stories about him appearing on manchester forums...

The general concencus of opinion is.. "he made a difference".. sounds good to me

RIP... Too early:(

Half of my post didn't appear! but oh well. What is there to say.
The man was a legend, and he'd hate me saying that, but he was.
Absolutely gutted.

What a shame, as a teenager I remember him introducing The Stones in the Park Documentary and his first words were,
"Please remember this programme is going out late at night so consider your neighbours and turn your volume to Loud!"

R.I.P. Tony:(

Was that the free concert they did in Hyde Park, to commemorate Brian Jones, in 1969?

Never knew it was on TV. Cool.

I had the pleasure of meeting the man in the Hacienda along with Mark E Smith and his ex-wife Brix many a moon ago,I must admit,I admired what he did for the NW music industry,he gave us Joy Division and New Order,he can keep 'The Happy Mondays' btw, woeful,I still can't forgive him for making the kids cry when he announced(with great joy) that Bill Shankley had resigned

RIP Tony Wilson
