Oops, A Clanger

Last week, my eldest daughter (Mimi) and I closed up the house and ventured up to Heysham to join the rest of the family for the week.

I took the opportunity to explain fully to Mimi the consequences of not leaving a house properly secure and safe. I walked round with her, checking ALL windows, yard gate, back door.........and explained the dangers of leaving electrical items on stand-by or with power from the socket. She went round the house switching all tv's videos etc off at the plug and I done the same in the kitchen!

A week later, I walk into the house.....and my nose was assaulted by some awful smell:confused: Guess who switched off the freezer in the kitchen:eek:

I wouldn't normally admit publicly such an enormous clanger but I know that Willow is chomping at the bit to tell everyone!:o

Anyone else care to own up in public to huge embarassing clangers??

So you got in first then Busman!!!! lol :D:D:D

Someone else at the minute is suffering from the smell of a defrosting freezer but his has done it while still plugged in. Somethings gone kaput.

Mine is one night answered the door to a late night visitor - yes it was chav and after he'd gone forgot to lock the door but to let him in i'd took the keys out of the other door - forgot to lock that one as well. Only found out when i was going out the following night and went to check the doors and found they were open!!!

Willow was really good at leaving doors unlocked overnight and especially during the day if she had to go out using the front door.......and leaving the back door unlocked:eek:

I now have a notice stuck to the back of the front door saying: "PLEASE CHECK THE BACK DOOR BEFORE LEAVING!!"

It works...............:D

You must live in v nice areas because i HAVE to lock the doors after everything. So as soon as i go in from work i lock the door, if someone comes to the door i lock it after etc, etc

i'm ALWAYS going out and leaving my door open, and as jen said its usually got something to do with chav, he'll call round for a brew and then ring me and say 'i'm stood in your living room, where are ya?' yesterday me n reece went to bury (again) and tadah rang me to ask where i was cos he'd come round for a brew and said 'your brothers just been to lock your door, but your windows are still open, do you want me to close them?' the reason i CAN leave my doors open is, my dad lives next door to me, i have extremely good neighbours, and i have nothing worth pinching (not even my pc)

When we lived in Durham City, in the early 70s, we once went over to Blackburn for the weekend to stay with my parents. When we got back our front door was open about 2". We were sure we must have been burgled and rushed in to find everything was fine, nothing out of place - someone just hadn't shut it properly when we set off.

(These days, I reckon we'd have come back to an empty house.)

Mick used to help mend cars at the side of our house, so there were always people coming and going.
One day I asked these guys if they wanted a brew, thinking they were mates of his.
Oh! no they were only scally's planning to rob the flippin Garage.
Beat that one.

When I lived in Church I had so many security gadgets that one visitor remarked "I expected a Jap with a tommy gun to jump up from behind the sofa"

When I went on holiday once on my own I found myself on the beautiful Greek island of Symi where I had some friends. So that I wouldn't impose on them I got myself a little apartment just off the harbour. I adopted a cat by feeding it the odd tin of tuna (it was pregnant so I couldn't ignore it). One morning I got up and put a shirt on (bearing in mind that I was on my own and it was warm so was just sleeping in my knickers). Thank goodness I bothered to put a shirt on because I walked out of the apartment to put some tuna for the cat and the door locked behind me. I had to walk all the way across the harbour to get a spare key to get myself back in.

Another equally embarressing story. I lived alone and was off work sick, it was snowing. I decided to pop next door to the newsagents for some magazine. Fortunately I was fully dressed, although I did have slippers on. Again, the door locked behind me and I was locked out. I had to ask the newsagent if I could borrow her phone, fortunately my mum was home so she set off to help me out, but I had to wait in the newsagents coughing and spluttering for ten minutes till she got there.

On the first evening of a holiday in Italy, we went onto our small balcony overlooking the harbour to savour a glass of wine and enjoy the view.
As an anti mosquito precaution, I closed the sliding door behind me and found that the two of us were locked out on the balcony. I climbed onto the next balcony and very apologetically roused (from sleep) the couple next door who let me through their room so I could get the night porter to solve the problem - most embarassing, but that couple stayed friendly throughout the holiday.

Re: Oops, A Clanger

About 30 yrs ago I was living in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and one winter night, when the temp had plunged to about -40c, I decided to drive to the mall to pick up some film for my camera. Because it was so cold, I decided to leave the car running, lock it, do my quick shop, open my car with my spare set of keys and drive home. Good thinking, eh. Just before I took off from my car, I noticed, sitting on my dash ... you guessed it, my spare set of keys. Shoot! Ah well off to the mall to phone Russ, a friend of mine who owned a towing company, and could break in to any car with his slim jim. Russ said he would be a while; no problemo, into the mall restaurant for a beer and a burger. Russ arrived, and asked where the car was. I told him that it was running and that we would be able to find it because of the plume of exhaust rising thro' the ice fog (you have to experience this to really appreciate it). Out to the lot .... lo and behold, the lot had filled and it was so achingly cold that all the shoppers had left their cars running (we were not so green 30 yrs ago). All we could see were plumes of exhaust rising thro' the still, frigid air. Russ, knowing my peculiarities when it came to filling my tank with gas, asked how much I had in my tank. I told him that I was pushing empty. He pointed to the left, and said, "that must be your car." And it was. The only one in the lot not running .... out of gas. We went to the car, opened it, put in some gas from the can that Russ always carried .... but it was so damned cold that the pig wouldn't start ... it was a Ford, I should have expected it. By this time we were so cold, that we headed back to the mall .... met some friends, had a few brewskies ... so many in fact that Russ decided not to drive, he went to his truck to turn it off .... gone, stolen .... somehow I got the blame for this ... But that's enough. I had my car towed home, plugged in the block heater and all was cool. They found Russ' truck abandoned by the 51st Street bridge and all ended fairly happily and really drunkenly.
