I like to keep you guessing.

You quite right. Just reminded me of a dear ex-neighbour of mine, whose catchphrase to me was "Keep 'em guessing Kate". Problem was, didn't have the will-power to hold something back about myself. 'Tis a good quality.. ;)

Much ado about nothing. The balls have images of flags from many nations on them. The balls in question have the flag of Saudi Arabia - which features shahada - one of the five pillars of Islam. The Saudis have complained previously about the use of their flag for such purposes.

Solution......if you receive a ball with the Saudi flag on it, don't use it!

Come on Barb , you know as well as I do that "we" Americans have a near unhealthy obsession with our flag the 'Stars and Stripes' ,it's illegal to fly it at night unless its floodlit , it should never touch the ground etc.........many folks treat it with the same reverence as shown to the boxes of bones on display in many European cathedrals , I would be interested to know who the supplier was and if there were any ulterior motives ;) ;)

I have no idea who the supplier was - but since the Saudis complained to the World Cup ruling body, one might assume that said balls were distributed under their auspices. Another example of multiculturalism gone awry.

Ummmmm......

My only observation is that the world would be a far better place if more folks decided not to take offense until they were damned good and sure that the offense was offered intentionally. And perhaps not even then, in many instances.

Of course, this is the position of moderation. For those who make their living or get their power by advocating radical positions, it's a complete non-starter. They NEED things that will help them inflame their followers, and the smallest apparent slight will help to serve their purpose. So, all we can do is to get more folks advocating moderate behavior.

yer quite right billcat, but as an addition to that -the world would be a far better place if governments learn from their previous mistakes n not replicate them.;)

That statement, cashman, is very true.

Couldn't agree more.

How come it's not offensive to have these words fluttering about on a flag anyway?

They'd probably have taken offence if that flag had been excluded too and seen it as some kind of slight. It's a case of heads I win, tails you lose.

Well my sisters dog loves footballs - and goes through them no problem he'll be happy taking them off their hands. :D:D:D
