My New Iron
Got one of those Jet Stream Irons today and just been trying it out. Have to say it was worth getting, it makes light work of the job. Would advise anyone who hates ironing to invest in one:)

Re: My New Iron
I don't do steam ironing. I just iron damp things which gives very little steam.

Re: My New Iron
It's not very often that I Iron so it would be a waist of time buying an high tech gadget. I tumble dry my cloth's summer ad winter. takeout of dryer while still warm. Smooth down with hands, hang or fold right away and hey.... no creases.
I hate the smell of cloths that have been dried outside and my towels always seem to go rough. |

Re: My New Iron
I try to avoid buying clothes that need ironing.
I have my washer spin cycle at 700 (low) so they come out wet but not dripping. I dont tumble dry - I put them on hangers on rails in a walk in type cuboard to dry. Takes longer, but they are out of sight. I find that the weight of water in them pulls out the creasing so that I can just move them straight into the wardrobe without ironing at all. This seems to work with any fabric that is 50% synthetic or more. I do have to iron cotton rich fabrics, but never sheets, towels, knickers and nightwear -who sees that creasing anyway? |

Re: My New Iron
The only things I iron are shirts. I don't like towels dried outside either. They seem to end up like cardboard.

Re: My New Iron
Whats ironing? :D:D:D
I iron when i need my clothes ironing that means once a week normally 45 mins before im due in work ironing my tshirt for work. At the minute i've got 2 washing baskets full of clothes waiting to be ironed - hate to admit to this but god knows how long some of them has been there!!! So Bernie if you want practice at using your new iron you can always give me a shout and you can practice on that lot!!! :D:D:D |

Mind you, when it rains on washing dried outside, doesn't bring down the soot with it as used to, then had to wash 'em again. .. :( |

Re: My New Iron
i paid £50 for my first good iron and it lasted me 8 years!!, now i got a new one and just paid £70, hoping it will last another 8 years, does a good iron everytime...better than the cheap £10 ones that dont last 2 mins.
if ya want something good you have to pay the price..;) |
Re: My New Iron
I don't actually mind the ironing......when will someone invent an iron that puts it all away for you once you have done it? Now, that would really get my interest.....and my money!

Picture the scene, old caveman has planned to go on a weekend hunting party with the lads when just as he gets close to the entrance his female gives out a big roar and calls, "just where do you think your going with your tiger skin in such a mess? Give it here and I'll club some of the creases out of it before you leave, no man of mine is going to be seen in such a disgraceful loin cloth!" So you ladies made this tedious work no man was ever bothered about such things. What you all need is one of these each:- http://www.ironing4u.co.uk/Images/IroningMan.JPG |
Re: My New Iron
I hate ironing - I iron clothes as and when they are needed i.e. about half an hour before I leave the house.
I haven't had much luck with irons lately. I had one for about ten years and decided that it was time for a new one so for my wedding anniversary last year I asked for one from my Mum and Dad (well I wasn't going to go out and buy it for myself). A really nice one turned up so I took the old one off the ironing board and put it underneath (just in case) and started using the new one. Unfortunately, I could never quite get the heat setting right and either ended up with still creased clothes or burnt ones! So the irons swapped places and the old one returned to the board. :D On the day before our holiday in August this year, the old one finally gave up the ghost. As the day before a holiday is the only time I ever attack a pile of ironing I was a bit stuck. So, when I went into town for suntan cream, etc, I dashed into Wilkinsons for a new iron. They didn't have much choice so I picked one up and bought it. :o I put the old one on the floor under the ironing board next to the other one and started using the new one. I didn't like it. I didn't have the 'weight' and even on its top heat wasn't really working, however, it was sufficient for holiday clothes. :( On return from holiday I decided that a cheap iron wasn't the solution so went out and bought a brand new, expensive one that I'm hoping will last for ten years. I got home and put the cheap one on the floor next to its two friends. :o So, basically I own four irons - one that is good and works, one that is expensive but burns things, one that is cheap and nasty and the old one that doesn't work anymore. Underneath my ironing board looks like a little iron graveyard. And there goes the saga of my irons! :D:D:D:D |

Re: My New Iron
The old style irons were the best. You know the ones before thermostats were invented. The ones that got hotter and hotter until you switched the electric off.
That took real skill in ironing without burning the clothes. They also had another function in the navy. We would get some bread from the galley, someone would swipe some Marge and we made toast by placing the hot iron on a slice of bread. You can't do that with a steam iron. You get crumbs in the steam holes.:Banane43: |
