Get your point, if we stop using everything that might hurt us we might as well live our lives wrapped in cotton wool:(

This is a national campaign.......there is an exhibition unit in the Fire Station in Darwen which is currently on tour in Lancashire bringing to the attention of the more careless in the community who do in fact make silly mistakes and set fire to houses with a possible loss of life.
This Officer is not only protecting his staff but also the general community.
His officers are the ones who have to clean up the mess, be it smoke damage, injury or fatality.
I don't find his remarks and advice wrong...prevention is better than cure.
These same officers give advice to children at the Fire Station and to the more vulnerable in their homes and they will fit you a free smoke alarm.
I would be inclined to give credit where it's due

Fire crews primary job is to attend an outbreak of a fire, contain it and extinguish it. Their secondary function is rescue and to administer first aid if professional help is not to hand. Their tertiary function is to offer advice on fire safety.

Advice is one thing but calling for the banning of all chip pans is a step too far. Indeed it is actually unwarranted interference in the lives of millions of people.

No one forced his staff to become a fireman/woman and they knew what the job entailed before they joined. If they didn’t they soon found out during training and could have stepped down if they weren’t prepared to accept it.

I think that everyone accepts that firemen and women are a credit to the nation.

Incidentally fire crews do not clean up smoke damage. That is left to the unfortunate victim or relatives.

I think I made the point without 'nit picking'

No, but you can be sure it wont be long before small print starts appearing in your householder insurance policies denying any coverage resulting from the use of chip pans or deep fat fryers that dont have automatic shut-off devices   ;)

I don't think our DFF has an automatic switch off but to be honest I rarely use it and have never looked.
