made some great music , lots of purists didn't appreciate his style , but he ( and the three tenors) brought some good music to the masses RIP.

the ap obituary from my local paper .Italian Tenor Pavarotti Dies at Age 71

Re: pavarotti died
A sad loss. He was a great entertainer who obviously loved music and loved entertaining people. He had a beautiful voice. People criticised him for taking opera to the people but a lot more people came to appreciate the music thanks to him. I loved the way he would sing modern songs as well as operatic stuff and sing duets with such a wide assortment of people.

Really sad, my Dad is a big fan of his, made me listen to him when I was about 11 and I thought " what a blummen racket " but when I was a little older and had a more mature ear I appreciated his talent.
RIP the King of the High C's. |

Re: pavarotti died
Until the 1990 world cup how many people had heard of Nessum Dorma and Pavarotti? The 3 Tenors brought Opera to the people and Pavarotti was instrumental in that. He will be missed.

Re: pavarotti died
It's actually "Nessun Dorma" (trans. None shall sleep.). Pedantic of me, I know, I am chastising myself as I type.
I was watching the report of his funeral on the news this evening; can anyone enlighten me as to why Italians feel the need to applaud at funerals? They did this at the funeral of the late Pope, too. |

They would have kept opening and closing the drapes, as he took his last curtain call. Diana, Princess of Wales, was the first funeral I remember people applauding at. People were doing it in Hyde Park, even before her brother's eulogy. |
