AccyWebbers' Favourite View
Having just seen a bit of scrape-the-barrel TV, "Britain's Favourite View", I thought about mine. I decided it has to be the view of Whitby from the top of Blue Bank, on the edge of the North Yorks Moors. When we moved there in 1966 I remember seeing that view of the small town, way below, with the harbour, the abbey and the sea and how fantastic it felt that I was really going to live there. It's still a beautiful sight, so many years later, and it still takes my breath away when I see it.
So that's number one for me. What's your favourite British view? |
Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
The view across Morecambe Bay on a clear day towards the hills and mountains of the Lake District..

Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
the view from Porth Island, next to Porth Beach on the edge of Newquay, fabulous.:) funnily enough was going to have a bench put there with a plaque to my late missus, got no response from Newquay council, so the bench was placed in me daughters garden.so it aint just HBC thats rubbish.:D;)

Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
I've got a few that i like. Cant say whats my favourite because i like them all for different reasons. Coming back over the tops from Blackburn looking over towards Burnley the view is brilliant especially on a nice day. Flying into Belfast City Airport and seeing the massive cranes of Harland & Wolffe and belfast loch, standing at the top of tarn hows in the lake district and looking down it, up round windermere and ambleside, looking up at edinburgh castle. Thing is there is so much nice countryside and views in this country who can really pick their favourite one?

Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
Looking down Little Blackburn Road towards the Market Hall and the Town Hall on a wet day. It can be evocative in the right light.
Every time I go up a mountain I see my favourite view, but it constantly changes with every step. |
Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
The view from the Clayton End towards the coppice.

Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
Just got back from Loch Lomond. Some outstanding views up there.
I'd have to go with something along the lines of Wynonie's post though! Nice one! Give me the Crown Ground over anywhere, anyday (but make it a Saturday :D) |
Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
The view from up high on Ossy moors, looking out over the town, and to all the hills in the distance.:)

Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
I don't know about that qualifying as a great "British view" Redash. I trust you're not disparaging the beauty of the Britsih Isles?:D I'd admit that'd be the best view when flying over something like Newark, New Jersey:p (sorry Billcat)

We actually walked all the way down and all the way back up again!!! It proved how un fit I was lol, I was shattered when I got back to the top. It is A lovely view!! But I didn't enjoy walking down the steps, as the wall on either side isn't very high, and I am petrified of heights!! I just clung onto the kids all the way down and back up!! :o |
Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
Apart from the views anywhere around Ullswater - my favourite view was from the back window of our old house on Cranbourne Drive -there was a space between the houses on Dill Hall Lane, over the allotments you could see right across to the horizon created by the hills -there is a massive oak tree up there which changes shape with the seasons (looks like a steam train with smoke in the summer and a witch on a broomstick in winter , or so i thought when i was little!). I think it's near where the Shepherd's Rest pub is....

Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
From the east gate of Fort Henry, on the glacis, overlooking the beginning of the St Lawrence River with the Thousand Islands; and if you look west, a beautiful view of Lake Ontario. Views great at sunset, and especially fantastic during a night thunderstorm when the lightning provides the illumination. Or on a motorcycle, riding on hwy. 60 thro Algonqin Park ... breathtaking!

Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
Got it in one Margaret! Haven't been over to Accy for about 4 and a half years now -mum and dad sold up and moved to Tenerife when my sister emigrated to NZ. So i get summer hols in Tenerife now too (there isn't much green grass there!)- but you can't beat Accy on a rainy day in autumn, or bonfire night! My boys both visited Accy a lot when they were younger and when we get a cold day here in October with rain on the wind from the north-west they say it's just like England.
These days everyone seems to knock so much about England but there is a lot that is unique and easy to miss...read my post on "Eating with your fingers" to find out one!! |
Re: AccyWebbers' Favourite View
Just seen your post Eric -my husband was over in Canada last Nov. for the Winter Show in Toronto (Dairy cows!) and did a tour of a number of famous farms out there -he was absolutely blown away by the beauty of the scenery -didn't like the food much (typical Italian!) but said the people were very friendly and hospitable...

Standing outside my front door looking down the street are the railway arches, that is my favourite view. In fact i have a painting of it in my living room and it's always been admired.
