Have you seen it? The thing is called a 'halo', but it looks like summat I have in my kitchen. Anyway, just thank the lord that it is those poor sods in Haslingden who have to bear this nonsense, and not us.

I must say the people of Rossendale seem to be suitably impressed(even the ones who said it was a waste of money). Maybe we need one on the Coppice, or something similar!!

Go to Worldwide map search, routing and travel directions from Multimap and put this reference in SD791241

Alternatively PM me with a postal address and I'll send some maps out to you.

Take the M65 to junction with M6 south of Preston, then take M6 north for 100 miles. It's on your right;you can't miss it.

I'm told " when you go through the lights heading towards Haslingden, after a few hundred yards there is a fork left (road goes towards the ski slope) take that, then there is a road to your left - sharp turn, you know as much as me now.
I'm thinking of going up there tonight to take some photos of it when its just going dark, prob about half seven if the weathers OK

Something similar? How about a gibbet; or a stake for burning witches ... with pretty LED lights all over it, very tasteful.:D

I've just been over there and it's lit now.

WillowTheWhisp 27-09-2007 19:13

Re: Aliens Land In Haslingden

How to get there:

If you are heading from Accy towards Haslingden along Blackburn Road you turn off on the left and go up Hud Rake. Then before you get to the T junction at the end of Hud Rake there's a sharp turn left and you sort of almost double back on yourself. Halfway up that road there's a turn off on the right which is Cribden End Lane. Just keep going up there and you can't miss it.

Re: Aliens Land In Haslingden

Well I can report that they do not switch it off at 9pm. They switched the bloomin thing off BEFORE 9pm. I was wondering why we couldn't see it from on Haslingden Rd. Then we went right up to it and the flippin thing was all in darkness!

Gayle 27-09-2007 20:58

Re: Aliens Land In Haslingden

Funny story!!!!!

The automatic timer is set for four hours. So, should come on at dusk and then go off again at around 11.30ish.

On the night of the launch, we needed to manually start it so that it came on in time with the music - quite impressive it was too.

What no one knew at the time, was that putting it on to manual reset the timer to the default two hours!!!! I hasten to add that it was the lighting contractors themselves who did this and nothing to do with me or the team.

Anyway, the upshot of it is that it is currently on for a couple of hours each night but as soon as the lighting contractors get back on site they will reset it.

Doh!!!!

K.S.H 27-09-2007 21:03

Re: Aliens Land In Haslingden

If it's run by its own generator and batteries why isn't it on all hours of darkness, not costing anything is it and it aint shining through anyones windows up there

Gayle 27-09-2007 21:12

Re: Aliens Land In Haslingden

Because one of the conditions of the planning application acceptance was that it wouldn't be on all night so that local people wouldn't be complaining that it was on all night.

OK, now I know :)

WillowTheWhisp 28-09-2007 09:49

Re: Aliens Land In Haslingden

Shame that because it would be most effective in the middle of the night and I can't really see how it could bug people from up there. It's not like a massive floodlight or something is it? Will you know when the timer gets fixed Gayle?

Gayle 28-09-2007 11:25

Re: Aliens Land In Haslingden

Well it should have been done this week so I'm not really sure what's happening at the moment. I'll try to find out.

Best bet for the time being is to go up about 7.30/8 ish.

Jen, if there's any chance you could get a clearer idea of when it's being turned off for me that would be great. Thanks.
