Custody death total 'too high'
 

We all knock the prison service set up yet this report is a bit too much when we are meant to be civilized.

It may be coming down but the ones that are held under the mental health act and dying is a scandal. They are supposed to be watched and protected yet they are the group with the highest rate of death. Is this due to over crowding not enough prison officers and staff support services? Then there are over a hundred children up to 18 months in mother and baby units in prisons so are we really civilized?

i think its more due to the closure of many places whereas now the mentaly ill are placed back in society when they shoudnt be, so nick is the only place to send em. could be wrong,but its my thoughts.

The ones covered by the mental health act should have adequate care I think we would all agree on that but as for children in prisons who is to blame for that? If the mothers hadn't done the crime they wouldn't be doing the time IMO.

Have to agree that the mothers are the reason the kids are there, but do they have to leave the kids there till they are 18 months old. Its no way to start life.

None they are just unfortunate to have been born to selfish mothers. What would you propose? Should we let the mothers get away with their crimes? Other than that they are allowed to keep their children with them for eighteen months. They make the choice to keep their child with them.:mad:
