Don't cars in the UK have Sun visors
came across this news item about the new (revised highway code)
Drivers who smoke break rules of road - Telegraph one item that caught my eye was that drivers should stop if they are being 'dazzled' by the Sun (the big yellow thing in the sky, not the Murdoch rag) , another is that now a driver can be prosecuted for smoking whilst in charge of a motor vehicle (not in proper control of the vehicle ) . the article states the 'new' revised highway code is now 135 pages long. come on folks, is this not going over the top ? comments .......;) ;) ;) hey, someone complained that things were a bit quiet on here, and where is Bullseyebarb we miss you ?????;) ;) |
Re: Don't cars in the UK have Sun visors
Do you mean those tinted bits across the top of the windscreen? Even if some cars have them the sun can be so low in the sky in winter that it shines directly at you rather than from above and be cut out by a sun shield.

Re: Don't cars in the UK have Sun visors
I think this is another case of press fuelled hysteria. If you are responsible for an accident you can be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention wether you are smoking or not. The idea is you are using both hands to control the vehicle. Always makes me laugh does this one because the worst offenders for one handed driving are indeed the police themselves when they are talking over the radio/phone etc

Re: Don't cars in the UK have Sun visors
Funny you should mention one handed driving. I've just been watching DVDs of the old 50s TV series "Saber of London" - the detective Mark Saber, drives everywhere in London and he does so one-handed because he only has one arm. Is it now illegal for one-armed people to drive?

Re: Don't cars in the UK have Sun visors
With the amount of people still driving whilst using mobile phones, this rule will be nigh on impossible to enforce. If you bash into the back of someone, you are charged with driving without due care, regardless of whether you have a fag, mobile, meat pie or lipstick in your hand.
We do have sun visors Steeljack, we just don't have any sun...:D |
