Corrie's Cadbury Ads

Those flippin' things have been annoying me for years and I'm so glad that they have been replaced.

I just noticed that Hilda's ducks are flying around in a furniture store advert. How long has that been on?

Lol, I noticed that tonight for the first time too.

Don't know how long it's been on. I'm sure it was still Cadbury's last week.

Re: Corrie's Cadbury Ads

Thank goodness for that, Grannyclaret, I was wondering if senility had set in. The trouble is that you watch something for so long that you don't seem to notice it anymore.

Hilda's ducks were ok but what were those things under the coffee table doing?

It think it was 1960 - I remember because it was before I first married in 1961

The first episode of Coronation Street was broadcast on Friday 9th December 1960. My dad remembers it well. Ken Barlow has been in it from that day to this.:)

A very highly paid bore at that. Though being boring must be down to the writers.

He is carting on though and the only remaining one from the original cast. I remember the first programme, I'm sad to say. I remember, my Mum, Nana and my brother all sitting in our Holland Street house being well engrossed. I was nine at the time.

Strangely enough, the next thing which I remember us sitting glued to was the death of President Kennedy.

Probably all changed now but when they opened the Asda up there it was just as you turned off the road to Haslingden and his house was on the left.

Apparently he now lives in Alderley Edge in Cheshire, just up the road from Kerry Katona.....I bet he was thrilled to bits when she moved in! (Not!)

garinda 02-10-2007 22:27

Re: Corrie's Cadbury Ads

When Bill Roache lived near Haslingden he always had a big poster on his fence at election times, saying Vote Conservative. A bit ironic as Red Ken, the part he's played for forty seven years, is supposed to be the original kitchen sink socialist.

Incidentally, he's only the second longest serving actor in the same role in the world. That honour goes to someone in the U.S. called Don Hastings, who has been in As the World Turns since October 1960, two months before Corrie first went to air.
