The TV Future
Sony engineers have produced what they call an Organic Light Emitting Diode TV.
It is barely 3mm thick and currently used in some of those all singing and all dancing mobile phones that can show TV programmes or access the Internet. The frame holding the screen would be thicker. Currently the largest TV that has been developed has only an 11 inches screen and I understand that smaller TV’s are being sold in Japan for the equivalent of £850. But the future is bright and I doubt if it well be very long before OLED’s take over from LCD or Plasma screens. Imagine a genuine wall hanging TV without having to be supported by a steel girder. Google Organic Light Emitting Diode TV’s and you will get a pile of information like http://www.news.com/Sony-begins-mass-production-of-OLED-screens/2100-1041_3-5366020.html |
Re: The TV Future
Well thanks to our technology reporter JB for that report.

Re: The TV Future
It will be interesting to see how they develop them in the future.

Re: The TV Future
It reportedly has a much clearer image than anything we've been used to. Technology is moving too fast for me.

It’s not moving fast enough for me. If OLED TV’s were available now at a reasonable price of course, I could get rid of that huge monster in the corner and have another armchair in my tiny living room. When three people visit me one of them has to stand up or sit on the floor. Ooops! Time to go and watch Man U. |
Re: The TV Future
Sounds good to me too, it wont be long before they make them larger and more affordable.

Re: The TV Future
Not exactly 'new' technology though...
OLED history | OLED-Info they will be a big influence on teh future of displays but as is teh nature of these things spomething better will soon come along to make it old tech. Willow, if its too fast now I'd shut my eyes... Its only ever going to get faster! :D |

I was made to realise that when Busman called our video recorder 'new fangled technology' and Emzie looked bemused and said it was an ancient out of date thing! :D |
Re: The TV Future
most things out were discovered yonks ago... its estimated that ''new'' products for next twenty years have been created and the reason that there not out is because the manufactures are to busy stuffing there pockets
|
Re: The TV Future
IT is slightly different. normally a couple of years from discovery to first release and this is getting shorter. the problem is that we the consumers are actually slow in uptake.
You think about it, plsmas have been out for >7 years but its only now that they have started to really reach mainstream You need to thanks bleeding edge geeks like me :D for showing interest in stuff that you will be using in 2-3 years!!!! |
Re: The TV Future
Can I have a hologram style on then please that regardless of where I am in the room I can still see it perfectly. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Nothing wrong with the speed of advancement its just sometimes cashflow cant keep up. :( Bring it on I say. :D |
Re: The TV Future
absolutely spug!
I love trying to second guess what they will bring out nxt. 3 years ago I got my first mega pixel mobile phone. A sanyo S750./ It beat most of teh big manufacturers to market but never took off as people want Nokias S-E's etc then I took part in some consumer research about what I wanted to see next. WIFI was one, decent AF 5M pixel cam, ability to hack was another. 2 years later I got a wifi enabled, 3M pixel Symbian phone.... hackd to high heaven mine does stuff it shouldn't be capable of. my next phone will prob be a Neo 1973. Go on, google is your best friend!!!!! yes its geeky but I'm really looking forawrd to a fully open platform |
Re: The TV Future
This sounds good, trouble is it taking forever to convert anolouge to digital and until that is sorted out you won't get the best out of this new technology in any case.
Unless you have cable or Sky or live in a free view area, or somthing to that effect. The sooner technology can improve the better. |
Re: The TV Future
The sets and pictures may be getting better, but what's on then is definitely getting worse.
